ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE 2016 - INCREMENTAL BACKUP RECOVERY:FILES AND FOLDERS
Hi, hope you guys can help.
ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE 2016: INCREMENTAL BACKUP RECOVERY: FILES AND FOLDERS
I created a full backup on 1st April, with increments following on 10th, 15th and 21st April.
I'm a relative 'newbie' to ATI, and, when recovering a specific folder containing all my photographs (with all its subfolders and files), I mistakenly(?) selected the initial backup (1st April), which ran for 8 hours, and was recovered just fine. But should I have selected the last increment date (21st) in order to have recovered everything in the selected files and folders?
If that is the case, and I need to recover files backed up incrementally since 1st April, should I recover each of the increments separately, and in the date order in which they were created?
Hope you can help.
Regards,
Martin

Hi, Steve.
Sorry to bother you again, but...
I didn't realise the following applied by default when I recovered a whole bunch of files and folders:
"Recover files with their original security settings - if the file security settings were preserved during backup (see File-level security settings for backup), you can choose whether to recover them or let the files inherit the security settings of the folder where they will be recovered to. This option is effective only when recovering files from file/folder backups."
As a consequence, I have some files that I can't open in Windows 10, despite that I have Admin privileges in the account. Clearly, it's because I've inherited security settings as a result of Acronis's default application of the files' original security settings. Any workaround on this that you can suggest, without my having to re-recover?
Any help appreciated,
Kind regards
Martin

Hello Martin,
I guess that there are a couple of options that you have here:
1. If you can remove the files you restored earlier with their original security settings, then you could repeat the restore and elect not to keep the original security settings this time.
2. You could try changing the security settings for the restored files / folders - starting at the folder level and electing to let all files / sub-folders inherit the changes made.
To do this, right-click on a folder and select Properties.
In the folder Properties window, click on Advanced.
In the Advanced Security Settings for the folder, you should see the current folder Owner information.
Click on Change next to the current owner.
In the Select User or Group new window, start typing the new owner name then click on Check Names to get the fully qualified new owner name then click on OK.
Back in the Advanced Security Settings for the folder window, Select "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and also select "Replace all child object permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object" then click OK.
in the Windows Security window you will be warned that "This will replace explicitly defined permissions on all descendants of this object with inheritable permissions from [folder]. Do you wish to continue?"
Click on Yes and let the permissions be changed.
Repeat the above for further folders!
