Acronis True Image installation Restricted

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to install Acronis TI2016 to my Windows 7 64 bit machine. I tried unistalling Acrois TI2012 with the Control Panel, and that did not work. So, I downloaded the Cleanup Utility and removed the program that way. When I tried invoking the installation program after the Cleanup uninstall I got the following message:

------------------------------------------------------------

Acronis
Acronis True Image
Installation restricted

Please uninstall Plus Pack for Acronis True Image
Home 2010 (version 13.0.7154) and try again

Close

---------------------------------------------------------------

I don't have that on my machine according to the Control Panel|Programs|Uninstall. I also don't have an Acronis folder in either my C:\Programs Files or C:\Program Files (x86) folders.

The manual unistall worked fine on another Windows7 machine, but this one has me stymied. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

Scott, go back into your account downloads and grab the 2012 version and plus pack.  INstall both first.  Then reboot.  Once installed, then go into control panel and remove the plus pack and then the main application.  Run the clean tool one more time for good measure and reboot.

Hopefully you can then install the newer version - make sure you right click the installer and "run as administrator".  I'd recommend you always do this when installing any softwar these days as it gives slightly elevated access that even a logged on administrator does not have unless you do this.

I wish I could say that worked, but it did not. I tried reinstalling TI2012 with my serial numbers, and then I got this error message:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation has failed
Fatal error during installation

Fatal error during installation
The older version of this product cannot be removed because it seems to be corrupted.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried doing the Cleanup program again and tried the registry cleanup file, neither of which worked. I don't have any trace of any Acronis programs in my Control Panel|Programs|uninstall section. I'm at a loss. Any additional help would be appreciated. It seems like Acronis has taken over and just refused to uninstall or allow for a newer installation.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, please try the older Cleanup Tool from KB: 34876: Acronis True Image: Cleanup Utility which was intended for these older versions of the product.

See also KB: 57946: Acronis True Image: Installation Fails with "Some Acronis products must be uninstalled first"

The Cleanup tool your KB link refers to is for 2012. I don't see a separate link for an older version. Could I have you give me a direct link to the tool for download?

As a side note, when I boot my computer, I initially get the Acronis Loader Push F11 message, and when I do, I get into the Loader program, even though I dont have any folders on my C drive refering to Acronis. I'm really getting frustrated with this, as the old program seems to be acting like a cancer that just won't let go. I really want to install my TI2016, but without getting rid of all evidence of the older program, I can't. It seems there is not a phone number to contact Support either. I just purchase TI2016 and have been a user of Acronis producst for a few years now. I'm really surprised at the lack of support. I truly do appreciate your help Steve, but either I'm doing something wrong (thus the reason I want to talk to someone in Support) or my computer is really messed up.

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, the link Steve provided is for the cleanup tool compatible with 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010 - that's the one to use first.  The current one is for 2015, 2016, 2017

Applies to:

As you clearly still have ASRM enabled  (F11 option), even after uninstalling 2012, hopefully using the old clean tool will get rid of it automatically.  If not, re-install 2012 and the plus plack. Then go in and disable ASRM first.  Then run the cleantool after that.

If you just purchased 2016 within 30 days, you are eligibile for a free upgrade to 2017 - go and get it now, for free, before it's too late. There is no phone support in 2016, only chat and email.  In 2017, perpetual licenses now have 1 year phone and email support (instead of just 30 days).  If you have a cloud subscription, then you also get phone support.  I believe you would still have to initiate the support via chat and then they would call you.

I have tried every conceivable uninstall and re-install suggested, and I keep getting the fatal message:

Installation has failed
Fatal error during installation

Fatal error during installation
The older version of this product cannot be removed because it seems to be corrupted.

I tried the Cleanup utility, and before rebooting went into regedit to clear out anything mentioned in the KB article associated with the Cleanup Utility. That didn't work, but there were no offending entries in the regedit as per the article.

I tried going to an older restore point, but for some reason it didn't work. I have since gone to a restore point from 3 days ago to get the computer running again. The computer does not have the Acronis TI program installed, but for some reason on bootup the message for the ASRM is enabled. I have no way of disaabling that, because when I try to reinstall TI2012 I get the above message. I have the error file that was generated from my latest attempt, it is attached to this message.  I am at my wits end. Short of saying to heck with it and buying a Win10 machine due to this one being 6+ years old, I am at a loss as to what to do.

Scott, if you are still seeing the ASRM F11 prompt then this may be the Acronis component that cannot be uninstalled in order to allow the new install to succeed.

Please see webpage: Fix the MBR – Guide for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 which should allow you to remove the entry for the F11 / ASRM from the Master Boot Record by using the commands shown in the article when scrolling down the page to the section:

Fix the MBR in Windows 7
