Acronis True Image Update Failure

Thread needs solution

Hi Folks,

I just started running Acronis True Image 2016 (3 PC License) on Win10 x64.

On my 2nd PC I got a prompt to upgrade to Build 6571 and when I tried this I kept getting a installation failure message that states Access Denied.

I tried the process documented in the link (i.e. https://kb.acronis.com/content/58249) but it did not work, part way through running the file_tracker_setup_2501 process it states "installation failed".

Next I uninstalled Acronis True Image 2016 and then I logged onto my Acronis Account and downloaded the installation file. I ran it and the install failed with Access Denied. Now I don't have Acronis True Image installed any longer.

What am I doing wrong please? Thank you in advance for your help.

Stephen, welcome to these user forums.

The Access Denied issue has been known for some months and normally was resolved by either using the program you downloaded from KB document: 58249: Acronis True Image 2016: Update to Build 6571 Fails with "Access is denied" or by performing a full clean install of the program.

Note: There have been a number of instances where third-party security programs caused this problem.

I would recommend the following approach:

Start your system in safe mode, disconnected from the internet and disable your security programs (antivirus, firewall, antimalware, anti-ransomware etc).

Retry the file_tracker_setup_2501.msi program from the KB document - ensure you run as Administrator.

Retry the main ATIH 2016 build 6571 installer, run as Administrator.

If you still encounter a problem, try changing the Compatibility mode for the installer to run in compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows such as Win 7 or 8.

Restart and re-enable security etc if the install succeeds.
