Acronis will not clone from one SSD to another

Thread needs solution

I have made several attempts, reformatted SSD to be cloned to , even tried just using back up and then back up to that SSD ( Samsing 500gb EVO ) ...less then 3 years old. I can write to it, I can read from it, i can put 200 gb of files on it easily, I just cannot clone from my Samsung 830 256gb SSD to the bigger one....it goes to reboot.....hangs.......and just brings Windows back up. No clone, no back up ever starts !

Anyone help ????

( Have used Acronis since 2010, this is 2016 version, on Windows 10 OS ) !

Don't start the clone in Windows - use your offline bootable recover media.  When you start in Windows, it reboots, then replaces the Windows bootloader with the Acronis file system and attempts to load it into memory.  There are a lot of reasons this could fail (secure boot is on, bad sectors on the drive, bad memory, etc).  As a result, Acronis won't boot.  You're actually very lucky that you haven't ended up with a corrupted Windows bootloader in the process.

This can all be avoided by simply using your offline recovery media.  It takes just as much time to boot from as it does to reboot the system and have this automated, yet it emoves the risk of bootloader corruption and is more likely to boot properly.

As a word of caution, please take a backup of your drive first - just to be on the safe side.  Even the Acronis guide recommends this.  There is no safety net built into the clone process.  If you clone in the wrong direction, or something bizaar were to happen, a backup will get you back on track, but if no backup exists, then you're out of luck.  Most likely there is nothing to worry about, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
