ATI 2016 Bugs and quirks (many, many, many)
Norton Ghost orphan (no way to habe ghost 15 working correcly on W10 and the new "alternative" from them, including AV, isn't my cup of tea) i've landed here and installed ATI 2016.
Features are impressive and the licence cost, well, reflects that.
Problem is, in two days i haven't been able to set up a "reliable" backup.
I found the program filled by errors, bugs, making this release (5518) a real pain.
My machine is:
-Xeon x5670, 12Gb Ram, a nice bunch of hds, W10 64 Pro (W7 U64 upgrade).
Drives config is peculiar: multiboot, MBR in a Corsair 120GT containing W10 32Bits. At selector defaults to W10 64bits, wich is on a Samsung 840 Evo 250.
This configs works fine and never generated any problems.
And yes, my system is virus free and *very* stable.
Let's start with the problems:
-As someone else pointed out, creating "custom" profiles is impossible: as i create (or modify) one, after confirmation ATI defaults to his own profiles, losing the mods i did in the backup scheme/method.
-No matter what kind of backup scheme/method i choose (incremental/differential), after creating the first "full" image, the next backup will be (if i'm lucky) another *full* image (no inc, no diff). On the other side, when i'm not "lucky", it starts elaborating sizes about the double of the backupped disk (if it's 100 it will "computer" for 200) and then, after x2 the time, it creates another *full* image.
-If i create a NonStop plan it works well. At the start, for a few hours. Then, the backups stop ("last backup" stops to a determined time [meaning, hours before], new backup files aren't created anymore.
-If you try to edit a NonStop backup plan it will "switch" by itself to folder/files mode, without a way to set it to "disk" as it was. Worse, if you make the mistake to go in the options of a NonStop backup plan and click "ok" you can say goodbye to it. It won't work correctly anymore, not even for those few hours... and...
-After that, the worst of all: i can't eliminate a NonStop backup. If i do, it first delete all the files (well, not all), then it doesn't remove the backup plan. No way, it stays there. If you create another NonStop backup plan on the same drive, the two are joined (with a random name from one of the two) but no way to make it work (meaning, it doesn't work even at the start). The only way to fix it is to remove the relative script in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts, then load ATI and *then* remove the backup plan.
-No way to make work Try&Decide. It simply doesn't, as better illustrated in this topic:

-Recovery disks Odissey: in trial (without a proper licence) you can only create the Acronis Bootable Rescue Media (not PE).
It loads on CD.
It doesn't load on USB. No way. (i tried with various USB memories). Fact is, Windows 10 Installer works from the same USB mems, ATI doesn't.
When it loads (CD) there's no way to use images stored on a NAS (the same NAS wich is perfectly seen as such by ATI in Windows).
It doesn't see the NAS.
Trying to force it on Samba it ask (naturally) for authentication. But it doesn't authenticate (login+pwd are correct, of course).
I tried to create a Recovery (USB) even as Acronis Universal Restore (in this case, it allows to build a PE restore).
In linux mode, it starts to load, then stops.
In PE you can only create CDs, i didn't try.
As i said, licence is pricey, but ATI is full of features that competition simply doesn't have at the same price tag.
Problem is, as things are, many of those features don't work.
Bigger problem is, i didn't even manage to have a correctly working backup in two days.
Said that, i'm going to insist, because ATI features *ARE COOL* and i want them. So, please, let it work. :)

Carlo,
Do your problems still exist when using the latest build 5586?

Same problem with latest build. Also all my previous pre stored configureations and schedules have gone (where are they).
Try to validate when in acronis backups file folder on destination disk doesn't seem to work. (BE AFRAID VERY AFRAID).
Start up screen asks me for email address and password I put my acronis account details in the boxes the same ones I used to access this forum. and it comes up with an error.
Quite frankly I am beginning to wonder if this upgrade to a newer version was worth the monehy certainly if things don't improve by the 28th of this month I will be asking for a refund.
A LOYAL CUSTOMER SINCE ACRONIS BACKUP 11.
On an unrelated matter does disk director 12 offer me anything significant over 11.??
