ATI 2016 RECOVERY problem (1 full and then incremental problem)
Hi guys,
check attachment - i booted thru ATI bootable media and was really hard to click each and every .tib. either said corrupt or there is another backup.
so i logged back to win 10 (had to install a fresh win 10 on a new but SAME size HDD cuz my previous HDD died)
i have a DEDICATED 8TB HDD for that and i called it ACRONIS
first time i use acronis and i started doing so since i upgraded to win10. i selected complete backup if i remember well then INCREMENTAL backups. DAILY!! i never changed a name or anything - kept it as is
now when i logged in win 10 i was able to double click all the TIB files faster (the ones in the attachment ATI BACKUPS). it does the following:
if i click the first one it starts telling me find file 2, 3,4,5,etc... i click them one by one then it opens up (see attachment 1) LOOK AT TOP LEFT CORNER (where it asks for the files) - now the files that have at the end _2 are the ones working so if it is asking me for tib 3 and tib 9 i select the one with v1_2 and not v1 otherwise it says CORRUPT file.
once i reach the LAST one (24) it tells me corrupt file.(ATTACHMENT 2)
sometimes when i am clicking the files 4,5,6,7,8 etc... it opens up and shows me DIFFERENT backups. i clicked them all (ATTACHMENT Random at 22) (after doing the SAME job a billion times and i get the SAME message as again ATTACHMENT 2
so i tried all dates. can it be that the LAST FILE is corrupt even though i did change NOTHING? can i unzip it or fix it or EXPLORE it.
what can i do?
really frustrating
hope someone can help
tx,
roger

Hi Roger,
To constantly run a read and write backup on the Hard Drive will wear out the Hard Drive a lot quicker, then to simply split up the Hard Drive into small partitions, where you can keep one partition for your operating system. One partition for your Documents. A second partition for 2nd operating system for Beta Testing and restoring the primary partition, without the need for the Acronis Bootable Rescue CD.
The only thing really necessary to back up are Documents, Favorites, your Email Store Folder and Contacts, which should be done daily.
With a separate partition for the operating system, you can simply restore the operating system, without worrying about your Documents and having to restore them.

Tx to both of u guys for the feedback and advice.
so will i ever b able to restore my windows or i start building everything again and forget about all the tib i have?
yes from now on i will do a weekly or monthly full backup - prolly i will install everythign like b4 and once this is done i will create a full backup.
also how can i check (if in case i cannot get my old windows thru restore) if the backup is valid?
last can i repair the last backup (tib extension) that is causing me problems? cuz as u can c i have many restore points but any restore point i try to , well, restore it THROWS me back at clicking the LAST backup that as we all know, shows it is corrupt.
ANY restore pt is fine for me. hope u can shed light on the last paragraph beautiful people.
tx in advance,
roger

K i just finished my win 10 AGAIN! installed everything. so i do a FULL backup and that's it? we all know over time windows starts deteriorating but if i keep updating that FULL backup it means it is backing up the dll and all registry stuff that will eventually kill windows.
so wot do i do?
hope u guys can shed light on the best way to use acronis.
i have windows with program files (and xz86) on 1 drive (2TB) and desktop, music, docs, pics, videos and EVERYTHING else on ANOTHER 8TB drive.so basially wot i lose in case windows dies is i need to install all the software again that's it.
hope u can provide some tips on the best acronis use.
cheers,
Roger

The lable v1.2 markings indicates you had a problem during that specific backup and any incremental after that (within the same B#) is questionalble.
Use the validate option.
You can validate your backups. Start by clicking the most recent incremenal.
If it fails, then click the next most recent.
If that fails, then click the next next most recent, etc.
The versions prior to the v1.2 are probably good but do try to validate.
I would set up a new task with a new name pointing to a new storage folder.
Set up the automatiac cleanup option as per this example GH12,
Keep in mind what MVP Pat L wrote in post #2 about more frequent full backups.
GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup. ...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.
It might be a good idea to check your system disk for disk errors.

Yes, restoring to the state of the computer as of the date of the last backup TIB file you can open with triggering an error.

The best way to increase confidence the backup will be useful is to restore a couple of files after having booted the computer on the recovery medium. Another way is to run the validation process from time to time. At least this will confirm whether no file has been corrupted.

If the last TIB file is the only one you cannot open, simply restore the previous TIB file (all restore operations should be from the recovery medium). If you trouble selecting the last file, this is not normal. You could still move that file away and try to restore again.
