ATI 2016 Starting another full backup after full backup completed last night.

Thread needs solution

So I created a new backup task for a drive (Full backup followed by incremental backups, with a new full backup performed after 20 incremental versions) and let it run to completion last night (2.2TB). I verified, and the backup is there and is the correct size.

I have the settings to incremental after the first full backup, but as soon as I started up the computer again this morning, it immediately started a new FULL backup on top of the one created last night.

What is going on?

More information and some pictures would help.

what is the schedule settings?

I had duplicated the backup from a previous version, and something must've been wrong with it. I deleted that backup version along with the backup files, created a new backup task from scratch and did a fresh back up. Seems to be working now.

The whole reason I had to do all this was because the previous backup with the same settings was not creating a full backup after the 20 incremental verstions. It was just making incremental versions past that point. Let's hope this doesn't happen again with the latest backup. I swear, it's always something with ATI.

How about a screen capture of your backup scheme.  Hopefully, you have set automatic cleanup. If we see the settings, we can offer comments.

I discourage all editing of an existing task. Edits do not work! The program is unable to adjust.

The GH12 is a example with automatic cleanup which is the setting "store no more than (n) recent version chains.

With your setting full plus 20 i ncrementals, your chain length is 21 files, so keeping 4 chains, per my example, would be keeping 4x21=8i4 backups.

Keeping only 2 chains (store 2 chains) would be keeping 42 backup files.

GH12. Create Custom Incremental Backup Scheme w/auto cleanup.
...Keep Full plus 6 Inc per chain. Store/Keep 4 chains. Use whatever number best fits your needs.

Keep in mind that when restoring incrmentals, you need to have all incremental that were created (all same B#) in order to restore the most recent incremental.  Each incremental is only one piece and not duplicated in any other file and all preceding inc pieces needed.
