ATIH 2016 Tray Icon Missing
Just updated to the latest version of ATIH 2016, and my tray icon is missing. My scheduled backup seemed to run fine, but no tray icon.
I am on Windows-10 Pro, completely updated. My ATIH 2016 version is 5586.
The tray icon is not critical, but it's nice for easy access and to know that the program is running
Thanks for your help.

No system tray icon here either. Windows 10 Pro fully updated. Build 6027.
Without the system tray icon, how do I change priority while a job is running? If a backup job is crippling the system, I need a way to change the priority to LOW.

Hello everyone.
If the notification area icon is still missing please answer these questions:
* Is TrueImageMonitor.exe running?
* Is TrueImageMonitor.exe listed under the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run registry key?
* If you run TrueImageMonitor.exe manually (when TrueImage.exe is running) does the notification icon appear? The executable is located in c:\program files (x86)\acronis\trueimagehome\

Your check list revealed my problem. The file is located in the correct path. The run registry entry in present. The file will not run automatically or start. I ran the file and the notification showed up and went away when the job was finished. Why is the file not running in memory when you start windows ?

I did a repair install on the 2016 TI and it changed nothing. When shut the computer down last night, the trueimagemonitor.exe file did not get turned on (run). I can run it manually and all works fine until I shut it down again.

That is strange indeed. Gifford, please try this:
* If you're using Windows 10 open the Task Manager, then the "Start-up" tab. Is the "Acronis True Image 2016 Monitor" entry present and if it is - what is its status? Enabled or Disabled?
* If you're using an older version of Windows run msconfig , then open the "Startup" tab. See if "Acronis True Image 2016 Monitor" is there and if the checkbox is checked.

In task manager it was listed and "enabled". I started a job in Acronis and the notification icon did not show up so I opened the the source path and opened the file and the icon showed up because there was an acronis job going on. It will stay this way until I turn the computer off but the next day the problem returns. One clue I may have found is with a piece of auto run software called autoruns from sysinternals. The entry of the monitor file shows up in a pinkish color different from the other file font colors.

I can confirm this behavior on my Windows 10 x64 Pro install as well. The system tray icon only shows up when a backup is running. After the backup completes, the icon disappears. If I hover over the icon during a backup, it always shows 0% complete even though the backup is progressing. When I click on the icon, it will launch ATIH and I can see the actual backup progress.

Bobbo, this is normal: "The system tray icon only shows up when a backup is running. After the backup completes, the icon disappears." The tray icon is supposed to be there during backup only (or if you have a Nonstop backup configured). The other issue, however, is indeed strange. Does it always show 0% for any backup plan?
Gifford, it's hard to say right off the bat why the TrueImageMonitor process is not started on system startup. There are 2 other Acronis processes that are supposed to run on startup: schedhlp.exe and tibmountermonitor.exe. Are they started successfully? I suppose we can try to gather a Process Monitor trace on system boot, if you're up for that.

HI Dmitry,
No, apparently it is not at 0% all of the time. For whatever reason, it was just showing 0% during that particular backup, but it seems to be working OK now.

The tray icon does not appear in my task tray when backups runs on my Microsoft Surface 3. I have enabled all notification icons to show up in the notificaton area.
I believe that the icon did show before updating from build 6569 to 6571. Using Dmitry's 2016-02-11 post suggestions, I did find TrueImageMonitor.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\TrueImageHome and the key is present in the Registry. But I didn't find it in Task Manager's Services tab even after running it as administrator. In the Task Manager's Startup tab it is called "Acronis True Image 2016 Monitor" and is enabled but there is also a "Windows Problem Reporting" with it. See the attached screen shot.

Ray, I've had this happen once to me in Windows 10. To resolve it, I kicked off a full backup so that it was running long enough for me to do this...
I then went into notifications and saw a new Acronis one listed in Windows that was not previously there. I was then able to select it and tell it to always display and then when a backup was running it would appear. Hope it works for you too.
If not, there are several posts online that reference this fix for resetting the tray icon notifications:
http://www.cnet.com/news/quick-fix-for-disappearing-system-tray-icons/
Back up the Registry by creating a restore point.
Press the Windows key, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to and select HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify. (note that you can also right click and save this specific key somewhere ot restore as well - just in case)
Delete both IconStreams and PastIconStream in the right pane.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and select Start Task Manager.
Select the Processes tab, choose explorer.exe, and click End Process.
Choose the Applications tab, click New Task, enter explorer.exe in the text box, and press Enter.
Your icons should reappear.

Thanks, I get nervous about editing the registry so I tried your first suggestion; creating a long task and while its running see if it appears in the notification list. I had to "Select which icons appear on the taskbar" to see all of them and found "Acronis True Image 2016 Monitor." It was grayed out so to turn if on I had to termporily turn off "Always show all icons in the notification area." It remained on the list after I canceled the test backup. I ran another test backup and the icon appeared during the backup.
I had the same problem on my desktop PC with Acronis 2014. I found that in Task Manager's Startup list that "Acronis True Image Monitor" was disabled. I enabled it, rebooted, and repeated the above and it fixed it too.

Good to know. Glad it's working again and can pass this along to others that might run into a similar issue.

Hi Guys,
Running WIN7 HP.
Just posting this to inform you of my "fix" for the missing System Tray icon when ACRONIS 2016 v6571 is running it's scheduled back-up routine.
Having read all the above & checking in a few of the suggestioned locations & finding nothing really relevant,
I moved my original back-ups, (just one full & two incrementals), to a safe desk top folder.
(NB: A really strange one though...
There was no "Acronis True Image 2016 Monitor" found in the Task Manager.
I "re-started" it from the Program Files, but about 20/30 seconds later, it was shut down....ie: it disappeared from the TM screen.)
I then decided to try an un-install, just using the "normal" Windows > Programs & Features facility.
I proceeded with the un-install of ACRONIS TI & did a manual Program Folder check & registry check with CCleaner,
just to verify that all files had been removed.
I then, re-booted the PC, D/L'd the full installer, all 480 Meg of it, & ran it.
I was pleased to see that after I checked & reset all my prefs/options, I proceded to run a FULL back-up
& the missing icon was again, visible in the System Tray.
This may assist others who have a similar "glitch" with the missing icon without having to delve into the depths of "The Registry."
All this took the best part of 2½ Hrs to complete.
The moving of the original back-ups (7 plus Gigs), the un-install & the D/L were the worst time consumers.
Anyway, all seems to be functioning "as per normal" again.
Do not know why the problem occurred in the 1st place.
I'd be interested to find out why though.
Stay safe.
Regards, Rajah..
ps.
I forgot to mention, that whilst the OLD/ORIGINAL, ACRONIS was performing it's Verification, I had a variety of small UI's open up on the desk top.
It seemed to be updating it's data base or ?
Plus, it saved a series of strange, zero content, files in the following AVAST folder...
> C:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Avast\ng
See attached image of the many various pop-ups...
NB: They are not in the correct order of appearance.
