ATIH 6589 Installation Problem?

Thread needs solution

Anticipating the next big Windows 10 update, I downloaded ATIH 6589 and installed it on our laptop.  I know from experience that simply allowing ATIH to update itself can cause problems, so I followed the 'Uninstall - CleanupTool - Install' route suggested in these forums.  All seemed to go OK, the new version of ATIH ran up OK and correctly found some, but not all, of my previous backups.  However, when I tried to validate those backups they all failed, reporting 'corrupt backup'.  On a hunch, I removed them from the ATIH database, leaving the backup set in place, then added them back in manually.  After that, each backup validated OK.  Does anyone know what's going on here, please?

Nick, I have not seen other users reporting this problem in the forums as far as I can recall, and given that you used the Cleanup Tool as part of the preparation for installing the latest build 6589 version of ATIH 2016, then this should have wiped out the Database folder and files storing information on your backups.

I am not sure as to why you subsequently needed to remove the backup tasks from the database again and re-add them back in order to get them to validate the backups?  Validation has two strands when performed from within Windows, one is to identify the backup task and information in the database, and the second is to recalculate the checksum for the backup file(s) and compare this with the value stored within the file(s) to confirm that the files are unaltered from when they were created.  I suspect that the issue you saw all related to the first strand of this process given the way you have resolved this.
