Back up data files not showing up on backup drive.

Thread needs solution

I have set up 1 external drive for my primary data drive and have set up second external drive for Acronis to back up to.

My concerns are that my primary drive is showing 36 GB used and the secondary drive that Acronis backed up to is showing 132 GB used.  I did a quick reformat on second drive before I created back up to it so I was thinking that the data on both drives should match.

When I open the second drive up it is not showing any visible files.  I just want to make sure that every thing is working as it should.  If anyone can educate me on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thaks,

Don

Don, welcome to these user forums.

Please can you provide some more information on what you are doing here.

What drive letters are being given to your two external drives, and are these being kept connected permanently, or are they being removed / disconnected when not in use?

What type of backup are you performing here, i.e. full, incremental, differential?
How are you running this/these backups, i.e. manually or on schedule?
What are you backing up, i.e. what are you including in your source data configuration (OS drive, data drive etc)?
Are you using the second external drive for any other activities or backups, i.e. Windows Backup?

Please download a copy of the Log File Viewer app (link in my signature below) as this will allow you to check the task logs for your backup tasks to see what they are saying about the success or otherwise of those tasks.  You are welcome to post copies of the log files to the forum if you need help reading their contents.  The logs are held in the (hidden) C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs folder.

Screenshots would come in handy too -

1) one of the default "my computer" view with all drives showing total size and free space

1) one of computer management >>> disk management

1) one showing the content of the root of the main drive and another with the content of the root of the backup location drive.

1) of your backup settings showing what is selected for the source

1) of your backup settings showing the backup frequency

1) showing the type of backup (full, inc, diff) and how many version chains you are keeping

The log files will show errors, but I'm curios as to why you say the backup drive shows 136Gb used, but you are saying it is blank?  Have you turned on hidden/folders files and system files in your view to see if there is something there that you're just not seeing?

I bought acronics true image 2016 and thought I down loaded all my files and have no idea on how to get stuff back on my computer. any suggestions on how to get stuff back on. I had to re down load windows 10.I dont want everything that was dounloaded.

Hi Peggy.  I'm not sure what you mean, can you provide more details of what you've done up to this point?  Did you backup to the cloud or did you make local backups.  If you have existing backups (either cloud or local), once you install Acronis on your newly installed OS, you can just double click the local backup files (navigate to them in Windows file explorer) and then just copy and paste files out of the backup as you desire.  Please keep in mind, this is only reocmmended for data such as documetns, pictures, music, etc.  It is not meant to be used to replace applications, settings, etc.  I think this is what you're wanting to do though?

I have no idea where to look to see if my files were copyed to. windows had to re down load windows 10 for me.I bought this program so save everything before they replaced windows 10. It look hours to download so I assumed every thing was here somewhere and did not check before I called microsoft. You cant call anybody.  I lost my buisness sales tax ,customer addresss ect.  I guess I not only lost my files  and thougtht this program would save everything. I wasted 60.00 dollars plus what I bought on computer. Thanks for trying to help.   Peggy Waibel- Rick Waibel Pools

Peggy, when you say that "It took hours to download" - this sounds like you are talking about just downloading the Acronis software itself unless you mean that Acronis True Image was installed and was used to make a backup of your Windows OS and data before you had Windows 10 replaced.

Do you have either a second hard drive or an external disk drive that could have been used to store the backup files?

Please try doing a search to see if you have any .TIB files on your system?  Search for *.tib to see if you get any results across your Entire system.

If you can find any backup files (.tib) then you may have a chance to recover your data.
