Backing up HP DL360 G9 Server

I have been using the True Image product to backup the complete hard drive for many years.  Before doing a major install for our products, I would create an image, prior to joining the domain an image, and them when complete a final image.  These servers have been G5 - G8 running Server 2008 r2 and I have had absolutely no issues.  Are there any issues you are aware of with the G9 server that would make it different?  It boots to the Acronis start up screen, but after making a selection it just has a blank screen and sits there.  I was told it was because it doesn't support the OS, but I am not using the OS, I am using the bootable media and it has worked fine until I started working on this G9.  Thanks in advance for any direction.

What version of the bootable media are you using - the latest is 6581 and has some better driver support for newer Intel Nics and PCIE NVME hard drives.  If you're using anything older than 6579, you should get a newer version of the Acronis default Linux bootable media and can create it from within Acronis.

It could be a lack of drivers for newer hardware with these servers.  I don't have this particular server, so can't say.  You could completely go with WinPE bootabl e media instead too.  Download the Windows 10 ADK (1511) - it's in my link below and install it on the sytem you build your recovery media with.  You can then build a WinPE version of the bootable recovery media, which may (should) work better.

I would recommend using our MVP WinPE builder (also linked below) as it will include IRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technolog RAID drivers) by default as well.  If your new hardware has a 3rd party RAID controller (LSI, rocketraid, etc), you could put the drivers in the driver folder as well and our tool will inject them for you as well - just make sure they match the version of the Windows ADK used to install the WinPE.

Thanks.  I will try that.  I am currently using the 6851 build and I will try as you suggested with the secondary approach.

Good deal. Let us know what you think about the custom winpe builder.  I just uploaded a new version of the advanced builder (7.2) and think you will really enjoy it.

Thanks all, but it turned out that the KVM was actually creating my issue.  During Acronis boot, evidently the settings on the video port in the bios created an issue.  Long story short, both boot options work fine on a stand alone monitor.  If you have a Aten KVM attached to a HP DL360 G9 server, be sure you set the video option in bios to ALWAYS and not AUTO.  This caused me a lot of pain during this process, not only related to Acronis.

Thank you for providing the feedback and the cause of the issue - I suspect that not all KVM's are created equal - I have been using a Dlink KVM for many years without any problems, but others I have tried have given mixed results at times!  Glad to know your issue is resolved.
