Backup before and after re-installing Windows 10 Home

Thread needs solution

Can my old entire C-drive backup before re-installing Windows be kept on a different USB harddrive from the new entire C-drive backup series I will be starting now?  I moved the old one by cut and paste if that matters.

I am not quite ready to delete the old one unless it could cause dangerous conflicts,  but I may never access it again.  If I do, it would to find folders or files I am missing.  Restoring the whole drive could lead to the kind of problems that caused me to re-install Windows.

Norman,

Yes, your old entire C-drive backup can be copied to and stored on a different USB drive.  This is often a good idea.  If you are missing a file, you can mount the backup, locate the file and copy it to the new location...and yes, you should not restore the whole backup.

Norman, you should be fine if you have moved your old C: drive backup image files to a different USB external drive provided you have included all associated full, incremental and/or differential files.

I would recommend also deleting the backup task settings that were used to create those old C: drive backup files and starting a new backup task for backing up your new Windows 10 system, even if this is created by Cloning the settings of the old task.  This will help stop ATIH from looking for the missing backups that you have moved.
