Backup data after Windows 10 V.1607 updated.

Thread needs solution

Dear Acronis MVP Volunteer;

 Am using TI 2016 Build NBR 6571.  My PC is Windows 10 Version 1607 that was updated from V.1511 on 2016/08/11. My internal HDD has two partitions.

One is C and another one is F.  Complete backup is made on the external HDD.  After Win 10 updated, the backup data on the external HDD is indicated as follws;

  AUG12_full_b1_s1_v1.tib

    > C:

    >NTFS(1-3)

    >F:

My question is what NTFS(1-3) does mean.  Before Win 10 update to V.1607, NTFS(1-3)  was not appeared.

Please kindly make advice to me.

Best Regards,

Yoshi

Dear Acronis MVP Volunteer;

Ref: My post "Backup data after Windows 10 V.1607 updated"

Am wating for your reply.

Thks & Rgds,

Yoshi

Yoshi,

There have been a number of posts following the Windows 10 Anniversary Update where users have seen different behaviour though I have not seen anyone reporting seeing any NTFS(1-3) backup files.

I would recommend editing your backup task(s) and reselecting both the source and destination details.
This has been necessary for other users because the drive information has changed as a result of the Windows 10 OS upgrade, as this is essentially a new version of Windows 10.

Please try the above.

Dear Steve;

Many thanks for your kind advice.  Your saying was "I would recommend editing your backup task(s) and reselecting both the source and destination details. "    But this is very dificult to me, this matter is the first experience to me during my long time using TI.  Do you have any concrete examples to try your advice?

Thks & Rgds,

Dear Bobb0;

I tried according to your Attachment.  But I do not use the Acronis Cloud so that your chart  "#1-Select the backup task" was not appeared.

Thks & Rgds,

Yoshi

Whether you use Cloud or the stand-a-lone version, the GUI application is the same. There is no difference in this - did you even try? Please post a screenshot of your view if need be, but I assure you, it's the same in all versions of 2016.

Dear Bobbo+

I'll foward to you the similar capture as you forwarded to me.

Dear Bobbo;

Many thanks for your support.

What a portion is the destinaion windows?

I cannot find that.

If I click the yellow box, but nothing happened.

Yoshi

Yoshi, please see the attached video of how to reselect the source and destination data taken from my own ATIH 2016 program for one of my backup tasks.  You will need to extract the video file from the zip container then run it with Windows Media Player.

Yoshi, your attachment only shows me a screen shot of my video I posted for you, not your view of the Acronis True Image application installed on your own computer.

Dear Steve;

As to my True Image application, please refer to my above post to Bobbo on "Sun,2016-08-21-13:39" Attachment.

I'll for ward the same one on this post.

Yoshi, I am struggling here to help you as this is a basic function of the ATIH 2016 application.

From your screen image I can see that you have password protection enabled for your backup, so I created a test backup on my system to match what your image shows, but even with the padlock shown, I am still able to move my mouse pointer over both the Source (on Left) and Destination (on Right) panels and can see this change immediately to offer the choice to 'Change source' or 'Change destination', that I can then click on and navigate through the drive / folder structure.  See screen images below.

Dear Steve;

Many thanks for your follow up.  On your attachment, there is "Change source" on the left side block.  But, non on my TI2016.  When I choose "AUG21 NEW", I can see "H:\NEW ACRONIS BACKUPS\" on the right side block.  Then, I click that block, I can see the desitination of the external HDD.  On my PC, there are two external HDDs, G: and H:.

There are 3 complete backups on each HDD, therefore, 6 backups a total.  Alternately, G: and H: backups are made.   The "AUG21 NEW" was made for the test purpose.  But my matter was the same.  "Acronis Backups" and "ACRONIS BACKUPS NEW" are provided on each G: and H:.

For your information, contents of "Windows RE" are as on my attachment file. To my experience, it's necessary about 2 hrs to make the complete data backup and also more about 2 hrs are nacsssary to keep that on other destination.

How do you think about this matter?

Thks & Rgds,

Yoshi

Yoshi, thank you for the further images.

I suspect that you have selected 'Entire PC' in the left panel for Source data, and this is including the Windows Recovery partition which get created when Windows 10 does a full OS upgrade as with the Anniversary Update.

The Recovery partitions don't normally have a name so it is being given a generic name of NTFS(3-3) in your backup archive.

You should be able to look at what is selected for your Source data by clicking on the left side panel and looking at what is shown selected there.

Dear Steve;

Many thanks for your comments.  You said that you have selected 'Entire PC' in the left panel for Source data.  Please advisse with a drawing where that was.

Thks & Rgds,

Yoshi

Yoshi, the option to select 'Entire PC' is only available when you first create a new backup task, after that point you will see a listing of all available disk drives and partitions in the Source panel window when you click on it.

Dear Steve;

Thank you  for your drawing but some difference on my TI2016.  When I make new backup, I click '+ Add BACKAP' at the bottom line of NOW-1.  Then, a new name is appeared on the top line of NOW-2.  So that I can make a new backup to that file name.

Yoshi, are you messing with us?  Just click on one of the backup task names in the dark blue on the far left to select/highlight it.  Then click on the source and pick a new source if you want.  Then click on destination and pick a new destination if you want.  I don't any other way to explain it.  I see you have the options same as us and it's really as simple as that.

Please watch this video, this guy explains a lot.  If this doesn't help, I don't know what else will.

03 - Britec - How to Backup and Restore Your Windows - YouTube

Dear Bobbo;

Many thanks for your kinnd support.  I saw your video on YouTube.  Please understand that I can make the backup and the restore operation by using Acronis TI 2016.   My issue is why "NTFS(1-3)" was made on the external HDD after the backup operation was finished.   There are two partitions 'C:' and 'F:' in my internal HDD.  Before I made Windows V.up to 1607, the backup data was C: and F: only.  But after updated to V.1607, there are 3, which those are 'C:', 'NTFS(1-3)' and 'F:'.   My issue is what 'NTFS(1-3)' is.   Please see the top of this forum.

If I do 'Restoreing Data Operation' by using that backup data, the data is restored correctly.

Please undesrstand about my issue.

Thks & Rgds,

Yoshi

Open Windows Disk Management.  Does NTSF 1-3 appear there?

Dear All;

Firstly, I have to say 'Many, many thanks for your kind supports to my questions'.

To answer for Enchantech's question, I could not find 'NTFS 1-3' since I don't know where that location in Windows operating system is.  I assume that was newly created at the time TI 2016 making backup data, after Windows was updated to V.1607.   By using that backup data, I could recover without any problems.

So that, at this time, I will close my posts regarding this matter.

Again, many thanks and my best regards,

Yoshi
