backup files are deleted

Thread needs solution

My images are stored on an external HDD. Last night a made a backup of my sytem disk. In the morning I looked and found the backup file in the  specified folder. I than started a backup of my data disk. When the backup has finished I looked in the specified new folder fpr this backup and found it. When I looked into the folder of the backup for sytem disk (made last night) the backup file the file has disappeared.

This is something which happens to me since some weeks, files disappear witout any action by me. I think I'm not a newbie. I'm using true image since about 15 years. True Image get worse with every new edition. Does somebody know the reason for my problem?

Thank you for a reply.

Dieter, welcome to these user forums.

When we have had reports of this type of issue there are a couple of things that seem to contribute to the problem.

One is if drive letter for the external backup drive has changed for some reason or if you are using more than one backup drive with the same task.

The other is some form of corruption or damage to the Acronis Database files.

There are several options you can choose to use to try to correct this issue.

  1. Rename or delete the Acronis Database files and allow these to be rebuilt when ATIH next runs.  To rename or delete these files you need to stop / end all Acronis Services and Processes or else you will be told the files are locked by another process.
  2. Create new backup task(s) to replace your existing one, give these new names and point them at different target folders on the external drive.
You can also use the clone settings option to duplicate your existing backup tasks - this will create a new task with the same name but prefixed by (1) - you can then edit this to point to a new target folder.  Note: If you want to keep the same task name, delete the original task before renaming the new cloned task - this will remove the details of the old task from the database when you delete the old task settings.

If you have been trying to use more than one backup drive with your task then you should create separate tasks for each drive to be used, and allocate these specific drive letters (from later in the alphabet) to avoid the letters being taken should you plug in another USB stick or drive.
