Backup files on different hard drive

Thread needs solution

I had backup files from my other pc's on my F drive. Recently the drive letters changed and the backup files are now on G Drive. When I open Acronis, the list of backup files comes up with Acronis still thinking they are on F drive. How do I tell Acronis  that the files are on a different drive letter. Do I need to reinstall Acronis?

Since acronis can not find them, it can not validate the files.

Larry, you have several choices here if you want Acronis to recognise your backup files correctly.

1.  Change your drive letter back to as it was, i.e. drive F: then this will match both the task script and also the Acronis Database information - which is why Acronis doesn't recognise or find them.

2.  Delete the current backup settings and create a new backup with the correct settings or you could try cloning the settings and then changing the destination drive information to match the file location on drive G:

You do not need to reinstall Acronis to solve this issue.

Larry,

Just that you know, the fact that ATI doesn't see the files because F: became G: is not a big problem. When you restore files, you can just open your backup files with Windows explorer, and when you restore partitions or disk, you should use the recovery/rescue medium anyway. The only issue is that the ATI Windows software database will try to track different drive letters as if they were different destinations.

You should consider assigning a permanent drive letter to the disk containing the backups, with a letter late in the alphabet. You can do this by seach "create and format hard disk partitions" on Windows 10. THis will bring up the windows disk management console. You can right click on the volume associated with your backup disk, and choose assign a drive letter.

As you do that, consider copying your existing backup files to a sub directory on the same disk, and delete the existing backup task. Then create a new backup task. You can also remove the settings and add the backup back. But I recommend you don't continue a backup task that ATI might see cutting across several "destinations".
