Backup Naming
True, I'm getting older and prefer things did not change, but the latestest release of True Image seems to dislike manual intervention. I like the way I name backups, the way I prefer to backup and the addition of comments. I don't know where TI got the name for my first full backup, but it is not from the name of the disc partition and seems based on a really old backup it found. And I can't find a way to name the backup to my liking before the backup starts. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Bobbo but the option you mention is post-backup. I want to get rid of the default name used by TI which is currently "Samsung Windows 7 2014 (C) Jul 09 2015_full_b10_s1_v1.tib". The source drive is "Windows 10". I don't know why TI chose that file name (and wants to continue using it despite changing source drives. The file name only appears after the "calculating time it will take" function completes and the name is un-changeable. This is one hell of a bug and I'm about ready to dump 2016 and go back to 2014 if I can't find a solution.

James,
Acronis always enters a generic name when a task is first created. The moment you click on "+ Add backup", it shoots to the top of the list on the left hand panel and is highlighted. If you don't change it immediately, before you click anywhere else , it will set that name and then you have to use the drop down carrot to modify it, but this can be done before the backup actually kicks off. As a test, try creating a new "test" backup task. For me, it always defaults to my PC's computer name (see screenshot).
I'm not sure how you ended up with that particular name either. I can only speculate that this backup name carried over from an existing backup or was used when a previous backup job was added to the system automatically and then was modified to continue on. I'm not really sure, but those would be my guesses.
Also, if you change the name of an existing backup and then run it (which is needed to save the change), the name should stick in the application and show up that way as your backup task from then on. It won't change the existing backup name for those .tib files that were already created with the old name and currently reside on your backup hard drive; however, it should create a new full backup with the new name and continue to use that one from that point on.

Wow. That is the most convoluted way of naming a backup I have ever heard of. I name the backup according to the source drive and the date of the backup. For some unknown reason Acronis has screwed up the process to the point of uselessness. Thanks for your help, but I'm going back to 2014 until they straighten out this mess.

James, do what you gotta do. Now that you know the process though, it's 2 quick steps. I just did both and either way takes less than 5 seconds to complete the entire process.
New task = 1) click the "+add backup" at the bottom, then 2) immediately rename the generic one created by Acronis at the top of the left hand window pane
or
Modify task = 1) click the drop down carrot \/ next to the name in which is currently in use then 2) rename the one that's currently there as you see fit.
