Backup Option for Schedule is not Retained

Thread needs solution

So, I'm running 2016-6571 and when configuring Backup Options, almost everything works well.  I have a Custom Scheme, and various options pertaining to the Backup work 100%  Just set them up, tick-off the "make default box etc, and when complete I saved the complete configuration to, for example, "BOBS BACKUP".  Next time I want to run a Backup ALL of My Settings (aka a "Custom Scheme" etc, are 100% correct.

BUT, the option section, Scheduling, which I always want to be "Do Not Schedule" has been changed back to a seeming Default "Weekly" setting.  See attached pix.

I even tried using the Acronis choice to "clone an existing Backup to become a New (yet to run") Backup, but checking the options, again I see the Backup Schedule has been RESET back to "Weekly"!

I DO notice that if ALL THE OPTION CONFIGURATION PAGES (TABS) all others have a "tick-off box labled "Save as default", yet when configuring Scheduling, that option box is missing.  Again please see the attached pix.

Is this a program error, an oversite, did I made a mistake, is there a patch, hotfix or??

Any help would be appreciated.

Bob

Bob, I agree that there is no option to set a default Scheduling setting and thus Acronis defaults back to a weekly schedule for new tasks.

On my system, ATIH 2016 build 6571, if I clone an existing backup which is set as Non Scheduled, this is retained correctly in the new cloned task, so do not see the same as you are seeing in this respect.

Dear Steve,

Thx for your feedback,  I will attempt the Clone Backup once again (after my morning coffee!).  I suspect that there is an intervening reason why my test switched back to WEEKLY...maybe by the Clicking on the Main -Backup Window button OPTIONS, or something similar, the program code may have an "unfortunate logic issue"...whereby opening the option window, repopulated a bit/byte somewhere over-writing the "passed forward" parameter?

I think I mentioned, if I simply highlight a previously completed backup, one in which I MANUALLY changed Weekly to "Do not schedule"; then click the Options button, the previously completed backup/Schedule/selection remains at "Do Not Schedule".   Seems logical, that when that backup is Cloned, the Do Not Schedule option should then "roll-forward...this seems to match your feedback...

If I'm correct, during such a Clone Backup, the User should be prompted before the selection is switched back to WEEKLY.

Otherwise,  this would become a " feature vs. Bug" issue.

I'll test this 8/21/2016 PM-E.S.T,

Bob

Hi Steve,

I'll start my message again...the forum crashed on me...hate that!  Ok, the topic is as we discussed above.  You mentioned your experience with "Cloned Backups" was different than mine, and I said i had some ideas and would test...and so I did.  You are correct, with some oddities ralated to the  schedule issue.

1. Ok, this is just my opinion, I think there simnply should be a checkbox that allows a user selected Schedule (default) as opposed to defaulting back to Weekly.  Not sure how others users feel, and I don't know if V2017 has that feature added.

2.  So if you rt click (highliight) an existing completed backup of the MAIN backup page, and then select "Clone Settings" ALL of the BU options, including the defined, completed, highlighted backup WILL in fact carry forward to a new backup, not yet made...and this includes (the discussion here, the Do Not Schedule choice....But there is NO way (as far as I can see to confirm that)...Maybe ? the no schedule assignment  will be known as the GREEN BACKUP NOW Button appears...which I do not think will be the case if any Schedule Choice is in effect within the current BU configured Options...Wow, that's a mouthful.

3.  But, I think (as Schedule choices cannot be saved as all other OPTION can, then ONLY the Clone Setting (of the highlighted BU) will maintain the users non Weekly desired config.

In testing I noticed that the Backups (either made & Complete(having Green Check Mark) no defined but unmade newly defined or new backups sonfigured using "Clone Settings"  have important information (I think missing):

The order in which all backups are listed seem not to be ordered by either the date started, defined, cloned, completed or not...Just a bunch of Backup Names showing only the File:\Path\ destination.  Seems like having a displayed date (especially for completed (with Green Check Mark) would be important should the user wish to "Recover files or Recover PC).  Only AFTER the user highlights a backup and then further clicks (for example) the RECOVER PC button will a date be displayed in the  next window

So...IMHO, the Schedule Type should be configurable as a USER OPTION and have a check box ...why is Weekly a better Scedule default then x, or y or z!

Listed Backups in the Middle Blue colored section should be displayed in the order as created or perhaps a user definable OPTION as part of s Scheme definition.  I realized you are not an Acronis Employee just someone who helps users (appreciated).

So, time to climb down off my soapbox!

Thx for participating in the dialog...my attempts to discuss such issues thru support channels has, in the past only resulted in frustration-not solutions!

Bob, thank you for your time spent trying to explain your frustrations with some of the configuration options in the ATIH 2016 GUI, unfortunately you are speaking only to the user community as it is rare for anyone from the Acronis Sales or Development teams to visit the forums (if they ever do!).

I would encourage you to use the Feedback tool in the GUI Help section to express your views directly to the Acronis support teams.

In terms of the ordering of backup tasks in the GUI, on my system these are shown in Alphabetic order for the backup task name, starting with A...

As far as I remember there are no changes in ATIH 2017 to the 'Save as default' options to add this option to the Scheduler page - I will need to boot up my system with the Beta for 2017 to double check this which means swapping over some cables etc.  If there are any such changes then I will post to tell you, but wouldn't advise you to hold your breath on this!

Steve,

thx for your time & effort in support of my question....i do really appreciate the interest & personal effort forum members like yourself provide.  Sometimes, product users , like me, expand a discussion to a point beyond the the original scope.

once again, thanks for the forum member support you provide, which often isn't available through other channels.
