Backup successful, but backup files cannot be read
Hello all,
it's my first time to use Acronis True Image 2016 and I can perform backups successfully (according the message from True Image). But when I try to restore some files for testing, I always get the message "Failed to open backup". The error occurs any time, regardless to the destination target (nas or local drive).
Please have a look at the attachement.
What is wrong? I appreciate your help. Thank you in advance.

Does the same account used to backup the files and save them on the NAS have the same modify access to where they are being restored to? As a test, I would create a new folder on the root of your PC drive. Then give "everyone" and "all users" full access to the local security folder permissions. Then create a share on that folder and make sure the share permissions give 'everyone' and 'all users' the same full access through the share as well (just for testing). Now attempt to restore and see if you get the same behavior or not.
As another test, you can try booting to your offline recovery media and attempting to restore from it instead of directly in Windows and see how that goes.

Hello all,
thank you for your recommendations! I installed True Image again (as last time as administrator and additionally I turned Kaspersky off during installation). Now the above situation worked for some time. Encouraged I created for each notebook in my family an one share on the NAS. Again the backup worked fine and I could see the backup files in the desired folder on the NAS. But again I cannot do a test restore! And meanwhile the first share doesn't work any more (backup successfull, a restore not possible). I always get the error message:
Failed to check last versions of the backup
Can anyone help?
Is the software often so difficult to use?
Thanks in advance, SaschaS

I reinstalled True Image 2016 (again with running the cleanup software CleanupTool_46_en-US.exe) and did the backup with the new share again. Now a test restore was possible.
Why? Do I have always to reinstall the software again when I want to change the destination on the NAS? Is this information stored somewhere inside True Image? Is there a better solution? Meanwhile it seems for me that True Image is not very reliable or at least not very robust. Or do I have to take into account something?
Thank you very much, SaschaS

SaschaS,
Please see KB documents: 58004: Acronis True Image 2016: Troubleshooting Issues Related to NAS Credentials which has details of where Acronis stores NAS credentials.

Ditto to Steve.
As long as you are not modifying the accounts for the backups (chaning the name, password or permissions) after the backup task was created, you should be able to keep the same credentials for backup tasks. The reg key work-a-round is a fix for when the credentials have been changed or need to be updated, but if this is recurring regularly without those types of changes, it could be that the NAS is not liking multiple simultaneous connectes with the same credentials to the same shares... the local machines need to be rebooted to refresh the session on the NAS or the NAS needs to be rebooted to refresh the session on the client.
I would reboot a client and the NAS (as a test) to see if the backup then runs OK or not before updating the credentials again (starting with just one system and going from there.
