Backup Times Have Doubled For Some Reason

Thread needs solution

I've been backing up my Windows 10 system with True Image 2016 for a while now but the last two backups have doubled in length of time to complete.  There have been no signficant changes to the system or an increase in data size.

I'm happy to do a bit of troubleshooting myself,  but I need to know where the backup logs are.  I know this is a bit of a contentious issue with this version of the product as they removed easy access to backup logs.

The first step of troubleshooting I'd like to do is to review the backup start and finish times to see if I can identify when this issue exactly started occuring.  Obviously if I can identify any errors from the log as well that would be a bonus.

Any help appreciated!

Hey, just been looking at that tool.  Awesome stuff.  My backup job has jumpted from around 9 hrs to 14 hrs.  Not sure what the problem is yet, but this tool is definately helping with the troubleshooting.  Cheers.

Just some ideas to look for...

How much free space do you have left on the source and destination drives?  SSD's can start to crawl when they get below 20% free space as they use that space for the caching process.  Mechanical drives will respond in similar behavior too - especially if the disks are highly fragmented.

Are you using an external drive for the backup location - is it using a USB 3.0 cable (sometimes people switch the cables and don't realize they're using a usb 2.0 cable or hub - if you're using a hub, pull it out of the equation completely).  If so, try a different set of ports (if using the front, try the back or vice versa).

Check to make sure that Windows is detecting all of your memory

Any updates to AV programs?  Perhaps a recent update is now realtime your backup file as it's being created - you can try whitelisting the destination folders and /or file types (.tibs) so they don't get scanned by AV programs.  You can also whitelist Acronis folders too.

If these are network backups, are you using wireless instead of a hard wire connection?  if using a wired connection, are you getting Gb speeds or is it running at 10/100 only?

All shots in the dark, but perhaps may ring a bell or give you some avenues to look into.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions. The log viewer was particuallary helpful. The cause of the issue was a disk i/o performance issue on my Intel RAID 5 set. For some reason performance was variable causing backups to range from 6 hrs to 12 hrs! I've modified the disk configuration and backups are back to a more normal 6-7 hours.
