Backup whilst other software running

Thread needs solution

I run my backup in the afternoon whilst I am still using my business software.  Is this Ok? Acronis 2016 and windows 7.

David, the key consideration when using business software and running a live backup of your Windows 7 OS system is that any changes made using that software that have not been written or committed to disk will not be included in the backup image.

Acronis uses the Microsoft VSS snapshot service to capture live data but this may not 'play nicely' with applications that either keep lots of data in memory, or which are using SQL databases.

Ok I understand it wont save any changes I make to the database after the backup has started, but will it make a reliable back up of my business software at the time the back up starts?

David, sorry but I cannot offer you any guarantees about the backup as there are a number of unknown factors at work here.  Some applications may hold locks on their data files that can prevent reliable backup even when using VSS where this would be the same for any application doing the backup, not just Acronis True Image.

Some business applications provide their own backup methods for protecting their data, i.e. QuickBooks where the output from the application backup can be backed up by Acronis without a problem but backing up the actual application files can be problematic.
