Backup will not continue past first 31.3 megabytes

Thread needs solution

PC,  Win7 16G RAM, 1TB internal drive, 1.5 TB external hard drive- Previously used Acronis 2015 for a year or so with great results and suddenly the backup wouldn't progress past 31.3 MB as viewed on Windows Explorer / 8,192 KB as viewed on bottom of Acronis screen.  Decided to upgrade to 2016 in hopes of getting things straightened out.  Bought, downloaded 2016 and installed.  Same problem.  Takes forever to calculate "time to complete" and then answer comse back 3 weeks or something like that days or so.  Always completed "full" backup in four hours before.  Full backup was about 430-450 MB as viewed in Windows Explorer when things were working properly.  Drive looks okay as far as revious full and related incremental backups.  Also tried complete PC back up but it paused at the same point of storage.  In each cse, the backup doesn't show signs of "stoping", it just doesn't go further.

This sounds like corruption on your disk.  I would recommend running chkdsk on the drive partitions to check for file errors first.  If none found then vist your drive manufacturers support site and download their drive utilities to scan the drive for physical errors.

Try also to create a new task pointing at an empty directory. Just want to make sure the hold-up is not because of some task level corruption.
