Hello Albert, can you provide some further information to help us to assist you please?

What type of backup are you trying to perform?  Entire PC, Disks & Partitions or Files & Folders?

Note: If you have selected Entire PC, please ensure that you are not including the drive where you will be storing the backup image.

What version of Windows are you running? XP, Vista, 7, 8.1 or 10?

Where are you backing up to, i.e. what is your target drive to hold the backup? ASZ, USB external drive, network drive?

Can you check the Acronis Log files held in C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Logs - look for a log starting service_* with the date / time for when you started the backup, either attach the log to this forum or look for any error messages in the text of the log.  Note: the logs are in XML text format but can be read with Notepad.

Just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 with Windows 10..Installed ATI 2016..

Wished to backup drive. My baclup destination is an external drive not on PC itself.

Have it installed on desktop with no issues.

Hello Albert, thank you for the additional log information, these suggest that everything is running normally as far as the backup task is concerned and the application is in the process of creating a partition image for your Entire PC backup.

The other logs simply show that you have not registered / activated the Acronis Cloud 30-day subscription included with the product, so these can be ignored as your backup is not pointed at the Cloud for storage.

I would suggest making a new backup task using the Disks & Partitions option rather than Entire PC, and just selecting the main Windows partition to start with.  You can include the hidden System Partition / UEFI partition - you will need to click on Full partition list which is shown at the bottom of the Source selection window.  If this works correctly, then you can look at any other partitions that may be present that you would want to make a backup of.

Steve

Thanks for responding..Tried your suggestion. Now the programs seems to hang without continuing same as previous..see attachments.

Hello Albert, thanks for the further log files, in the last service log file, I can see the following error messages thrown:

VSS retry: 1
Failed to start creating the volume snapshot.
VSS writer 'System Writer' with class ID 'E8132975-6F93-4464-A53E-1050253AE220' has failed to process the snapshot.
Unknown Win32 error

This looks to be a Windows system issue with the Volume Shadow System which Acronis uses to capture a snapshot of the system files which would otherwise be unavailable / locked by system processes.

Did you install ATIH 2016 as an Administrator?

Are you running ATIH 2016 as an Administrator?

It is possible that the VSS errors are caused by lack of authority to use the VSS services.

Steve

"Did you install ATIH 2016 as an Administrator?

Are you running ATIH 2016 as an Administrator?"

How do I run ATI as adminterator?

Can you advise steps installing ATI as admintrator?

Guess initially I shoud uninstall ATI?

The steps would be most appreciated.

Steve

While looking in knowledgebase, found one  issue re VSS..started to follow it..run   listpart..did not have any info re which disk numer or such..

then all of a sudden my ext drive started to flicker indication the BU was in process even though I exited program.

Do not know but it is backing up

Thanks for all your help

PS:Install info on this site does not need to run as administrator..could not find ny info re running ATI as administrator ??

Al

Hi Albert, glad to hear that the backup is running although it has taken a long time to calculate the run time!

Programs such as Acronis True Image should be installed from an Administrator account in order to gain the correct authority to perform the tasks which it needs to do, i.e. to operate at a low level in the Windows system, access data at a sector level on the disk drive, use core Windows Services etc.

If you installed ATIH using an Administrator account then the application should run with those same privileges.

You can check what type of user account you have in Windows 10 by opening the Control Panel, then look at User Accounts which will open to your own account, and should say Administrator if yours is the account that installed ATIH.
