Best Network backup strategy
I have 6 machines, one a dedicated household server (previously used WHS v1) and have 6 licenses
Which would be the best way to backup my home network
a) each machine has ATIH 2016 installed and backing up to server over network. Server sparately backed up
b) server has ATIH and backs up each machine to itself over nework. Server is separately backed up.
Network is hard wired
Any help
Steve

If you choose to run that True Image applicaiton on a server you will need to purchase Acronis True Image Small Office as Acronis True Image is designed for PC. See link below:
http://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/ATI2016/index.html#3…
Running the application from a server backing up client machines will make administration much easier so that wouldl be my prefered choice.

Unfortunately the small office server is $499 and the small office pacage is offered in Australia but is AU99 yearly
A bit rich for me
Suppose I will just install on each machine and point to a Server share on the network (will have win 10 as os with share spaces)
I also have a copy of WHS 2011, but it is getting a little long in the tooth and I think MS will not support beyond 2016

I understand completely. Unfortunate but not much you can do I'm afraid.

Steve, for a "cheap" solution, use VSS on the server and let that handle the file changes on a recurring basis. You can then backup the server "offline" using Acronis True Image Home or Backup 11.7. Unfortunately, server backp software is usually costly - even competitors like Macrium and Retrospect come at a pretty high cost point for "supported" online server OS backups.
Just curious, but do you need an actual server (2012/2008, etc?) OS to manage your 6 systems? Could you possibly use Win 10 Pro instead - sometimes a single server is overkill, but depends on why you need it and what Server services you will be running on it. If this is a workgroup, I would think you could get away with not having a server, but then again, I don't know your unique setup or requirements either.

My needs are pretty simple- 6 machines - have my photo collection on one- I'm not good when I am in the loop to start backups-Have gotten along well with WHSv1 to automate my backups-Have been pretty happy with that- Moving to win10 which is not well supported by WHSv1- deciding whether to use WHS 2011 which I have but havent used or Acronis 2016- It seems that if I go the acronis route I will have to go machine centric with each machine backing up to the "server" ( a win 10 machine with large storage with "storage spaces" which give redundancy) or use WHS 2011 which is a bit old at this point and will no longer be supported after 2016. Trying to figure out which way to go before I put in the effort.

Yeah, ATIH 2016 is primarily per system at this point in time. However, if you have a Cloud subscription, you can see all CLOUD backups on each system that are registered under the same account (basically every cloud backup shows up on each system) - cheaper than a server license, but still may not be what you're looking for. If you price compare other backup products, you won't find things to be much cheaper with competitors when it comes to centrealized backup and management consoles where local backups are at play. Email notifications can also be configured for individual backups outside of the cloud so you'd still know if they were running or not, although not centrally managed.
There are other do-it-yourself options (Windows backups, robocopy and a simple email client like POSTIE), but what you save on the upfront cost, you put back in with time and management for the setup too. Alternatively, if it's primarily the data you're worried about and not so much the OS, synch applications like robocopy or allwaysync might be piece of mind in addition to backups.
