boot from acronis 2016 cd no usb mouse and keyboard found

Thread needs solution

Hey all,

I've the problem that starting from acronis boot-cd my usb mouse / keyboard (Logitech K330) are not found and after a while the os win10 is started (as default). Is it possible to change the sequence in that way, that if no input is done, the acronis sw is started ?

If the acronis sw is started, the usb mouse / keyboard are working as expected....

fk, you may need to consider creating the Windows PE boot media on DVD instead of using the standard, Linux based rescue media if that does not detect your Logitech USB mouse & keyboard on start.

There are no options that I can see whereby you can cause the Linux boot CD to default to booting into the ATIH application instead of defaulting to booting Windows from the first hard drive.

The Windows PE media will give you a Windows 10 like PE environment which should detect your mouse & keyboard to allow you to choose the menu option you want to use.  The process to create WinPE rescue media is clear and will guide you to download any components that are needed if you don't have them.  The only real difference is that WinPE won't fit on a CD hence you will need a blank DVD or a USB memory stick of 1GB size.

This seems to an issue with the 64-bit media more times than not.  If using legacy boot mode for the recovery media - just pick the 32-bit option instead and it works exactly the same on a 64-bit machine - no risk/no issue.

For UEFI boot, you can add the 32-bit entries to the 64-bit one as well so you can select them when it boots automactially to the 64-bit mode on UEFI systems too.  Again, no risk/no issue as 32-bit works just fine on 64-bit machines.

The following assumes you are using the default Acronis recovery media builder in the Acronis Application.  If you do not have Universal Restore installed, you'll end up with them as list entries in your boot list, but nothing will happen when you select them since they wont' exist (just don't use them).  If you do have Univesal Restore installed on you machine, then all entries will work fine.

Using a flash USB Acronis bootable recovery  drive (needs to be a flash drive so you can modify the boot menu), the UEFI boot menus are located on your recovery media (H:\ in my case) in the following directory:

H:\efi\boot

32-bit is bootia32.xml            64-bit is bootx64.xml

If you want, rename the orignial boot64.xml to boot64.xml.bak (or whatever you like, to preserve the original file in case you want to switch it back, but why would you?).

Then download and copy the one in this post and put it in the folder.  ***NOTE***I can only uppload .txt files so be sure to rename bootx64.txt to bootx64.xml or you won't have any boot menu.

You'll now have 32 and 64 bit entries in your 64-bit UEFI boot of your recovery media. Select the 32-bit ones and hopefully your mouse and keyboard work better.

Hi Steve, Bobbo_3C0X1,

thanks a lot for your support. I will try it.

For now I have found a very "smooth" solution... using an old keyboard with PS/2 and it's working fine.. :-)

Thanks
