Can Acronis Backup 2016 be used on Virtual Machines?

Thread needs solution

I have a copy of true image 2016. I would like to know if true image 2016 may be used to make a full image backup of Windows 7 and Windows 8 virtual machines; not physical machines, but virtual machines running on a host computer? Is this allowed and can true image 2016 make backup images of virtual machines in this manner?

James, welcome to these public User Forums.

You can install any supported version of ATI within the Windows OS running as a virtual machine but each such install will need a license to do so, as ATI is licensed based on the hardware signature where a virtual machine has a different signature than the computer hosting it.

Once installed, then yes it can make a backup from within the OS assuming there is an available destination where the backup file can be written to.

The alternative, is to have ATI installed on the host computer and make backups of the VM's when they are not active.
