Can I recover older backups with latest TI 2016

Thread needs solution

I currently use Acronis TI 2010/2011 and have a few different .tib backups.  If I upgrade to the latest release of Acronis (2016) will I be able to restore one of these old backups created by TI 2011 if the need arises, at least until I can get all of my backups made with TI 2016.  Thanks.

Also, I'm pretty sure this board has a moderator.  So, moderator, take this to management.  An issue I have with Acronis is there is no way (at least I have not found it) to contact Acronis with this type of question.  It should be answered via support, don't you think?

Anyway, thanks in advance for the answer.

Hi Roger,

No. I am not support.

When restoring, it is always best to use the same version for the restore as used when the backup was created.

Often, you can use maybe one version ahead but not from 2010 to 2016.

As the TI Recovery CD is the recommended method of restoring your system or new disk, I make a practiced of keeping each TI CD that I create.

It is easy just to keep them on a cd spindle and each Sharpie labelled with version and build number.

Hi GroverH,

I sincerely appreciate the response.  However it is most likely moot at this point.  I have used Acronis for years and it has saved my butt more than once.  So I just assumed I was going to upgrade to their latest when I made this post.  But then I was poking around this forum and saw some horror stories regarding TI 2016 (ie. crashing Win10, constant nags to purchase the cloud, and much much more).  So I started to do more research.   WOW, to say the least.  I understand that not everyone will be pleased with any piece of software, and you need to look at reviews and testimonials with a keen eye.  But because of the sheer numbers of BAD reviews and comments across the internet (and this forum) regarding 2016, well, there's something to it.  It appears Acronis 2016 has gone far down hill and is no longer a viable candidate.

So, I will NOT be upgrading to TI 2016, rather looking around for another product.  But I will say one thing ... it is a big shame.  Acronis was always the best, and to see such a great product go down hill and also trying to become, as one post put it "a cloud storage company", it almosty makes you want to cry.  How can people have such a great company and product and just let it go downhill?

Thanks again, GroverH, for the courtesy of a response.

When looking for other choices of this Imaging software, has anyone tried Paragpm and if so please impart your openion of the of this software versus ATI

I have used the free Paragon Backup & Recovery products but have not found them as friendly as using Acronis True Image, nor as reliable!

Acronis Support have told me that True Image 2016 is backwards compatible with images created in True Image 2015 but I have not tested this with images created with my older versions of True Image, including some from the 2010 version - it does work for 2015 as I had cause to restore my system back just a few days ago.

One alternative that I have been using more recently because of issues with True Image is the free AOMEI Backupper 3.2 product - I have used this on newer systems with UEFI, Secure Boot on Windows 10 where True Image plain refused to recognise any installed hard drives!  Backupper also provides both Linux and WinPE methods of creating rescue media.
The only limitation that I have encountered so far is the lack of an equivalent to the F11 System Recovery Manager - AOMEI do provide their OneKey utility to give this type of functionality but it didn't seem to be as integrated as with True Image.

An alternative to using F11 to recover is to add additional boot menu options for ISO images of recovery media, this can be done very easily using the free (non-commercial use) EasyBCD product.
