Cannot access backup .tib file

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I try to boot my computer(Computer A) with a Acronis True Image 2016 boot disk. Then create a backup of the whole system via the boot disk. The backup is saved on an external hard disk.

Then I try to connect the hard disk to another computer(Computer B)(64bit Windows 7) and want to burn the backup .tib file, but get an access denied error. It seems there are errors to access the backup file.

Why?

Thanks

This is a Windows permission error. When you plug a USB drive in one system and create files with it, the permissions of those files associate with the original system. Most of the time, you can just access them from another computer, but not always. If you were to right click on the back .tib files (or folder) and select properties, security, advanced and then take ownership from the new computer, it should work fine. Alternatively, copy the files from the USB to the local machine which will give the copied file the same permission of the new system as the location they are copied to. This is a Windows permission issue, not an Acronis issue.

You're welcome!

To prevent the need to do this as you switch back and forth between computers, it might help if you create a folder of the root on your USB drive for your backups. Ensure that "all users" and "everyone" have "full access" on that folder. Hopefully, no matter what files are written in that folder, they will always obtain those permissions and work on any system you try to use those files with.
