Cannot activate ATI 2016 Automatic Startup Recovery Mananger

Thread needs solution

Hi Everyone:

I cannot active ASRM in Windows 10 Pro 64 bit. I get a Windows error message saying the volume is protect by Bitlocker, but when I go to Bitlocker, it says it is waiting to be activated. Can my antivirus program, Bitdefender, be a factor? There has to be a workaround.

Also, how do I attach screenshots? I don't see an option for that, and when i try to paste in into this message, I get a message saying I have to use the ctrl-cmd-V keys, since my browser, Chrome, security settings cannot access my clipboard directly.

Thanks for your help!

Christopher, if you have BitLocker encryption active on your computer then this is not compatible with Acronis Startup Recovery Manager (ASRM) as this creates a Linux kernel OS boot environment from which to launch Acronis True Image but the Linux OS has no support for knowing how to unlock your BitLocker protection.

Please see KB 56619: Acronis True Image: compatibility with BitLocker which states how ATI interacts with BitLocker.

To embed screen shots you need to click on the icon at the top right (looks like mountains & sun) then use the option to upload the image(s) then to select the image to be embedded.

Hi Steve:

I followed your instructions on embedding the images, but I get a dialogue that uploads the images to my Acronis account, not this message.  What am I doing wrong?

Chris

Chris, the images are uploaded to your Acronis account in an area set aside there, then clicking on Select with embed the image in the forum post text area.

Chris, the first image is saying that ASRM cannot be used on a volume where you have BitLocker encryption.  This is because as advised before ASRM would not be able to work in this environment because cannot touch such volumes.

In all honesty I have not used ASRM is a long time and if you do activate BitLocker then even the standalone Acronis Rescue Media will not work with your encrypted drive as detailed in the KB document I referenced earlier.

ATI will successfully backup a BitLocker drive when run from within Windows, but this is only possible because at that time, ATI does not see the drive as encrypted, and the backup image file will not be BitLocker encrypted either.  You can encrypt the backup image file using the Password encryption provided on the Advanced Options page of your backup task.

When you restore / recover your backup, it will need you to reactivate BitLocker to reinstate the encryption protection.

But doesn't the second image say Bitlocker is not activated and my hard drive is NOT encrypted? I don't understand.

Chris, I do not have access to a Windows 10 Pro system at present to look at the BitLocker settings (am currently away from home) - but there is something here that Acronis is objecting to in this area of BitLocker.

I would normally suggest opening a Support Case directly with Acronis in this instance but your ATI 2016 is no longer supported unless you go for the Pay Per Incident route, so it may be a case of waiting to see if one of the MVP's or active Users in the forum will contribute to our discussion on this subject.
