Cannot clone Seagate source sector size 4096 to new WD 512 sector

Thread needs solution

Dell Latitude E6530 laptop i7, 8gb win7 pro.

Dell Seagate Momentus 750gb has a bad sector, needs replaced. Drive will boot, and generally works.
Bought new 1tb WD Black HDD to replace it.

Cannot do the clone using Acronis TI WD edition - Error 4537 Different sector sizes

Found (TI system report) the source Seagate has 4096 sectors, the WD target has 512.
KB 45437 says "Select another disk as target. Both source and target disks should have identical sector size"
This isnt really possible as the issue is with the source disk.

How can I clone this 4096 sector Seageate source to the WD 512 sector WD HDD?

Sector by sector?
Backup and then restore?

Hook, welcome to these user forums.

As you have already discovered you cannot clone when the source and target drives have different sector sizes as this is not permitted.

In this case you will need to use Backup & Restore to move your OS & data from the old drive to the new one using an intermediate backup drive to hold the backup image.

Thanks Steve, I am doing the backup to another external HDD now. Then I will restore to the new WD HDD.

I will post the results.
