Can't get email notification to work?

Thread needs solution

I am unable to get ATI2016 email notification to work. I have tried the following:

1. First I tried using my Outlook 2013 settings which correspond to the recommended server and port settings  to interfacing with AT&T Uverse email server. When I tried sending a test message (in backup setup) it failed. The error message had no additional explanation.

2. I then tried using my Gmail account with the recommended server and port settings provided by the Goggle Gmail support site. This also failed.

3. I then tried using my Yahoo email account using the Yahoo recommended server and port settings with the same result.

In each case, when I cut and paste the error return code into the error code lookup in Acronis support it finds no information?

The other concern is, I don't see anyway within the product to look at log files like you could in True Image 2013 which I had previously. When I ran a backup with ATI 2016 the GUI panel shows a backup successful message but no additional details like you used to get via email notification?

What am I missing or what have I done wrong? I can't imagine not being able to review the log file to verify the backup finished successfully and I'm not comfortable especially if the backup has errors or issues. How can you find and fix any problems.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you may provide!

Regards, Kevin Williams

Kevin, to take your second point first - you can download and use the Service Log Viewer app which one of our MVPs has created to provide an easy method of accessing the log files.  Lots of users have complained about the removal of access to logs in the 2015 and 2016 GUI for the product.  You can run the Log Viewer standalone if you don't want to install this as a program on your computer.

Next for the email configuration for notifications, this has also been raised lots of times by other users - the issue here is not specifically with the Acronis software but rather with security changes with email providers.

See post https://forum.acronis.com/forum/114580#comment-338859 which I tested and got working with Gmail a month or so ago.

Thanks for your update Steve. I downloaded the standalone version of the Service Log Viewer and gave that a try. It appears to format it similar to what I'm used to in ATI 2013 email notification. I also looked at your post explaining what you did to get Gmail to work. I'm not sure I follow what you did. After reading it I clicked on the Goggle link in your post to see the following:

"Allow access to your Google account As a security precaution, Google may require you to complete this additional step when signing into a new device or application. To allow access, click the Continue button below."

So I clicked on the "Continue button" and then saw the following:

"Account access enabled Please try signing in to your Google account again from your new device or application." I attached screen prints of this action but it doesn't show any more than I've already described.

I then flipped over to the ATI2016 backup options and clicked on "Send test message" only to see "Failed to send the test e-mail. Check the specified e-mail settings" and when I click the "More details" link I see "An unknown error has occurred" and clicking on the "more details" I see the following:

"More information about this error and solutions may be available online in the Acronis Knowledge Base.
To access the online resource manually, enter the event code at: http://kb.acronis.com/errorcode/
Event code: 0x0064022B+0x0000FFF0+0x8007001B".

As I said, perhaps I didn't follow what you meant. Can you please elaborate. Regarding the action you took with your Goggle account access; is this something you would need to do everytime you want to run a backup with email notification?

Thanks again Steve and I appreciate your efforts!

Kevin, you will also need to Enable access for less secure apps in your Gmail account, sorry this was in an earlier part of the post I referenced.

See http://www.ghacks.net/2014/07/21/gmail-starts-block-less-secure-apps-enable-access/ and follow the steps advised then retry the test email from your Acronis task.
