Can't use my rescue media flash drive.
I've just changed to TI 2016 and latest build, and I prefere to use a usb flash drive when I need to recover my HDD which I needed to do after a windows 10 update which would not let me boot to W10.
So as I would normally do, update my flash drive to latest rescue media, boot the computer with Acronis 2016 all good at this moment (see pic2). As soon as i get to mouse click "Disk Recovery" I get a blank screen (see pic1.
My only way to recover is to use recover media from Acronis 2015

James,
Please use the feedback options either in the Windows installled app if possible or from your Acronis account to report this error. Refer to or link to this Forum thread.
In addition this is a recovery issue and falls under full support, no time limit.
Your error is a segmentation fault which indicates that the recovery media is attempting to access memory address space which is not available. That could be an application bug or a fault in the recovery media creation process.
You might try recreating the recovery media onto a new/different thumb drive as problems do occur at times with previously used media.

I'd just try a new USB flash drive to see if it is repeatable on multiple devices. Flash drives go bad too. I bought for of the same about 6 months ago. They all "appear" to work in regards to copying / pasting files, but one of them has been considerably slower and routinely Windows wants to scan and fix it - even though it's been ejected properly and formatted a few times.
If the problem is not reproduecable on another drive, ditch the existing one. If it is reproduceable, then yes, please contact support for sure.

Hi Steve
It's the standard Linux and within Acronis I would like to use only usb as I have to move a paper shredder to access the dvd/cd drive.

You might want to run memtest against your RAM, you might have a faulty module.

James, how are you creating the USB flash drives?

Ditto to Enchantec for testing memory. Acronis is loaded into a RamDisk which is completely memory. If the memory is faulty, that could be the cause. You typcially only need 1GB or less for the Ramdisk, so I don't think it's a matter of not having enough.

I'd also like to know.
It could be a bad burn to USB. If using an .iso and a tool to convert the .iso to the drive, please format the drive and let Acronis build the media on its own to the drive.
If Acronis is doing the build automatically, I'd then try building it with the Universal Restore Media builder which can also build the same media, but actually lets you pick and choose which items you want to include.
If that doesn't make any difference, I would try downloading the .iso from the account and burn it it USB drive using RUFUS, ISOtoUSB or Win32diskimager (I'm beginning to like Win32diskimager the best lately - thanks to Enchantech to pointing this one out!)
If none of those work, it's something local - either with the flash drives (perhaps they were partioned differently at one point with another tool?) You can use minitool partition wizard free to properly format a USB flash drive as Fat32 and make sure there is only one partition on it before creating the bootable media. Windows can only see one parition on a flash drive so if there are others on it, that could be problematic
Last - make sure you are booting the drive properly. By this, I mean that if your OS is installed as UEFI/GPT, then you want to make sure you are booting the USB as UEFI/GPT (use your boot override / one time boot menu to verify this). If booting UEFI/GPT the initial Acronis menu will be a black screen with white letters and a numbered menu to pick from. If you are booting the recovery media to Legacy Mode, it wil be a colorful menu to pick from with graphical icons. Just make sure you're booting the USB media in the same manner your OS was installed on.
Check if your OS is installed in Legacy or UEFI mode
Make sure you're booting the right method of the USB media with your onetime boot menu example (notice there is a legacy and UEFI option and secure boot is disabled so that you see all options)

Thanks for the help
I put the flash drive in a spare usb port (top of PC case) let acronis do it all, I just highlight the usb flash drive and away I go. I'll run memtest but I have no issues if I use Acronis 2015 recovery media using the same stick.

Hi All
I've ran mem errors 0.
Used win32 discmager with Acronis iso I've configered my bios that it can only boot to an UEFI drive, if its not UEFI I don't see it in my boot list.

James, have you tried any other USB ports with your USB stick?
Also, please can you test whether you get the same error when booting from an Acronis boot DVD (and move your shredder temporarily). That would help distinguish between the media and the launch mechanism, i.e. is the error coming from booting into the rescue environment in linux, or is it being caused by booting from USB?

Hi Steve
Because it failed again TI 2016 boot media I reused the same stick and loaded the Acronis2015 boot media and I don't have any issues with that, I think I'll leave it as that. It works in exacly the same way. Thank you Steve and everyone that tried to help.

Are you using the ISO downloaded from your Acronis account to create the flash media? If yes then you are using version 6027 of the app. With the latest release version 6559 the ISO if you choose to create that and burn it yourself is built from within the True Image Windows app itself. This is the only way to get the ISO for release 6559, it cannot be downloaded from your account.
Not that this will do you any good however, if you are using the ISO which you previously downloaded from your account that download my have been flawed and thus causing the error.
The rest of your machine seems to check out so it is logical that the ISO file you are using is the problem. You should give it one more try from within the Windows install application and see if you get a different result.
In the GUI look to the left and find the Tools icon, click on that and the Media Builder app will open. You will have anumber of choices including letting the Media Builder create the bootable USB thumb drive itself.
I think it worth a shot to give this a try.

I just had a weird issue with a USB drive that would not boot another products bootable media. I could not run fat32formatter.exe either as I normally do to clean format it. I first ran diskpart.exe /clean on the drive. Once cleaned, I formatted with windows diskmanager as NTFS (only had the option to do NTFS or exFAT for some reason). I then ran fat32formatter.exe again and this time it worked. I then created my bootable media and all is well again.
Just wanted to point out that formatting of drives and the health of them can determine if something is working properly or not. Seems odd that 2015 media is working, but not 2016. I've built at least 10 instance of it on no less than 5 drives and they all work on multiple systems.

Hi Enchantect
All done inside TI 2016 latest build, one to iso, one to usb both fail.

My suggestion to you would be this, you may have already done this, format the thumb drive to fat32 prior to writing the new version to it.

Hi All
Used diskpart (clean all) then ran fat32formatter.exe on the flash drive FAILED same result. Then let Acronis 2016 make an Acronis rescue media .iso burned that to disk using burnaware. Can see my UEFI disc drive in bios (remember I can only see windows boot manager or UEFI boot list ................................................................................................. And the result is ...................................................................... the same.
So thats it put it down to one of lifes Mysteries. Off to watch Game of Thrones
