Clone Disk from USB boot

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

It's been a few years since I last used Acronis, and it seems to be very different. I used to use a bootable USB drive to clone a base machine image and reuse it on future machines. Is this still possible, and what method would I use to create it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Clinton,

Yes, after you install the software, there is a media builder in Acronis that will allow you to create a bootable USB drive.  I would always recommend you use your offline recovery media for any disk or paritition restore and/or any Clone operation.  Although you can start these in Windows from Acronis, it is not recommended (by me and other MVP's) as it will modify the OS bootloader, then reboot the system into Acronis.  However, if something is not configured in the bios correctly (for instance if safeboot is enabled), this will prevent Acronis from loading properly and then the bootloader may not get set back correctly.  Basically, using the recovery media to start restores and/or clones will prevent this from happening so that's why we recommend going that route.

Take a look at these tutorial videos - lots of good info about the newer interface and how to do full backup and recovery in Windows and with the recovery media.
