Clone or Backup, Confused!?

Thread needs solution

Hello,

Was hoping for a little advice, I just rebuilt my computer using a SSD drive as my main HD, I installed another HD internal I want to use as either back up or clone this is where I am confused. I guess what I want to do is clone the SSD to my other hard drive so in case something happens to the SSD I have my other HD to boot up and also have everything on it the SSD did, I do not see where I can set a schedule to have any changes on the SSD to run and mirror itself to the other HD once I clone it, or is that option only for a back up? If I do a backup instead of clone I see you can set a schedule to run for any changes but with back up is it also the same as clone? Confused please help.

Clone is a bit for bit copy of one disk to another.  Backup is an image of data on a disk in compressed form from which such data can be recovered.

If you were to clone your SSD to another internal drive in the machine and leave that drive installed in the machine chances are the machine would not boot.  If you were able to get the machine to boot with both disks installed and connected you risk Windows becoming corrupted as a result.  So your first statement of intent above then is not workable.

You can backup your drive to your second internal drive however, no problem there and is in fact the primary intention of the True Image application.  If you want that backup to be an exact copy of your SSD then you can select to do a Sector by Sector backup which will copy all space on the SSD including any empty space.

Most users choose not to do that however and opt for a Full Disk backup which by default in the app is a scheduled full copy followed by a set number of incrementals.

Have a read through the documentation on Backup for more in depth on the topic.  If you have more questions post back and one of the MVP's will be hppy to help.
