Clone process not resumed after restart.

Thread needs solution

I have a Windows 10 Home desk top PC (UEFI) with one hard disk disk of 1 TB (GBT partitioned). I wanted to replace the hard disk by a SSD (Samsung 1 TB). I connected the SSD (not formatted) to a free SATA connector on the motherboard and started the cloning process. After making the proper selections (automatic, hard disk to SSD) Acronis started to calculate the time required to execute the process. A little while later I was instructed to click the restart button. The computer restarts, but Acronis does not resume and complete the cloning process. The SSD is still in its virgin state. I tried this several times, also after formatting the SSD, but always got the same result.

Pim, welcome to these public User Forums.

Please ensure that you have created a full Disk backup of your working 1TB HDD before making any further attempts to clone from it to the new SSD - this is your safety net in case of any mistakes or errors arising!

For cloning, I would recommend booting your computer from the Acronis Rescue Media instead of doing this from within Windows and then having the PC restart into the temporary Linux environment that is used by Acronis.

Ideally, it is also best to connect the target clone (SSD) drive externally via a USB adapter to perform the clone.

See KB 56610: Acronis True Image 2016: Creating Bootable Media - for details of the options for creating WinPE media.

KB 59877: Acronis True Image: how to distinguish between UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot modes of Acronis Bootable Media

KB 56634: Acronis True Image: how to clone a disk

Personally, I would recommend using Backup & Recovery over using cloning, where your original source HDD is removed and set aside safely, then your disk backup is recovered to the new SSD installed in the PC using the Acronis Rescue Media to boot in UEFI boot mode.

See KB 59873: Acronis True Image: recovering Windows from a boot failure - which describes doing a disk recovery.

All the above are based on you having ATI 2016 as per this forum.  If you have a different version then there are other documents available in the Acronis Knowledge Base.

Pim Veld - had the same situation on a PC and needed to go into BIOS and disable secure boot and enable CSM (compatibility mode) and then the cloning worked just fine. I reversed the bios changed after and no issues.
