Clonedisc - Worst crap software ever

Thread needs solution

Ok maybe my title was a bit too harsh, but Clonedisc is definitely on my Top 10 list of Worst Crap Software!

Downloaded latest version of Seagate Discwizard and have wasted 20 hours trying to clone 1tb drive in a Laptop to a 4tb in an external case connected via USB2 with no luck.

First grievance; Spent the first 12 hours trying the "Manual/Advanced" option and at the end it said failed and refers to a log file! Problem is nobody developing this software had enough brain cells to include a button/link from within so to read or jump to folder containing log file, or even simple instructions as to where the log file may reside!!! So I Googled, navigated to suggested folder, read a log file with one freaking line with only a title!

Second grievance; Then tried "Automatic" method and after gathering information on source and target and doing the required reboot, your crap software had been stuck in "Preparing" for about 8 hours, with no movement on progress bar, nor any movement on hourglass!

CRAP, CRAP, CRAP!!!

Rene, welcome to these public User Forums.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which applies to all OEM versions of ATI supplied with hardware purchases.

Sorry but the above approach was doomed to failure from the start!

Please see KB 56634: Acronis True Image: how to clone a disk - and review the step by step guide given there.

Note: the first section of the above KB document directs laptop users to KB 2931: How to clone a laptop hard drive - and has the following paragraph:

It is recommended to put the new drive in the laptop first, and connect the old drive via USB. Otherwise you will may not be able to boot from the new cloned drive, as Acronis True Image will apply a bootability fix to the new disk and adjust the boot settings of the target drive to boot from USB. If the new disk is inside the laptop, the boot settings will be automatically adjusted to boot from internal disk. As such, hard disk bays cannot be used for target disks. For example, if you have a target hard disk (i.e. the new disk to which you clone, and from which you intend to boot the machine) in a bay, and not physically inside the laptop, the target hard disk will be unbootable after the cloning.

Any issues with the Seagate DiscWizard application should be addressed to Seagate!
