cloning notebook hard drive failed now can't boot into windows

Thread needs solution

Was in the process of clone my msata drive to a new SSD and during the cloing procedure Acronis mentioned that it need to restart the computer to start the process.

I don't know what happened after that but not the computer does not see the hard drive

It says no bootable image found.

Scared that I clone the wrong way, I removed the hard drive from the notebook and put it in a docking station and was able to see the partitions and copy my personal data just in case I have to reinstall the OS.

What is my next step?  Did I mess up my partition table or master boot record?

Cloning of OS system disks should not be done from within Windows even though the app allows it.  You should always use the user created Recovery Media to perform such operations.

It sounds like from your report that the machine refused to boot into the Linux based environment necessary to perform the clone so it is likely that your machine boot order is now incorrect and is at root of your current issue.  Reinstall your drive into the machine, enter the bios and insure that the drive is first in the boot order list and attempt boot again. Should work.

If not, you can try repairing with your Windows installer or repair disc.  If you don't one, you may be able to boot into Windows Repair from a parition on your drive.  If not, you may need to contact the original manufacturer about obtaining Windows install media (or find a "copy" by googling online).

As Enchantec mentioned, because tools like Acronis, Macrium, etc modify the Windows bootloader if you use them starting in Windows, this can lead to boot issues if the automated bootloader it creates fails to start up.  By using your disc instead, this type of change will not occur to the main hard drive and you can prevent these types of issues. Right now though, I know that doesn't help your situation, but hopefully you can get the bootloader repaired and back into Windows.
