Cloning one partition from dual boot from HDD to SSD

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I currently have a 500GB HDD partitioned between Win7 and Linux (Ext4 + Swap partition). I want to clone to the Win7 partition (210GB) to a new 240GB SSD so that I don't reinstall all of the things of my Win7 partition. How would I go about doing this with Acronis TI 2016?

Thanks

Io. Marc. welcome to these User Forums.

Cloning works at a whole disk level so you should use Backup & Recovery as the method for achieving the migration that you are wanting to do here.

Make a Disk & Partitions backup of all the required Windows 7 partitions on your HDD, including any hidden/system partitions such as the Microsoft System Reserved partition, but ignoring your Linux Ext4 & Swap partitions.

Recover / restore your backup to your new SSD drive.

I would recommend using the Acronis bootable Rescue Media when doing the recovery / restore, and either disconnecting or removing the HDD drive to avoid any possible errors.  Once you have successfully restored the Win 7 OS to the SSD and have got this to boot successfully (with any change in the BIOS for the boot device), then shutdown and reconnect / replace the HDD and test that all is still OK and booting from the SSD.
