Cloning question and storage of clone

Thread needs solution

I have Acronis True Image 2016 Cloud.

Currently doing a backup to acronis cloud ....taking for ever and I have 5 puters to do.

However, just got a couple of 5TB desktop backup drives. Going to do the standard backup and I want to clone the disk for eventual drive replacement in the computer.

I'm reading about cloning and it almost looks like I have to do the clone and transfer all in one operation. In other words, I can't make a clone, save it, an use it at a latter date when I want to replace my drive.

The help files say the clone won't reboot from a usb drive and I have to have the new drive in place before starting the clone.

Is there any place I can find more info on cloning with Acronis 2016?

I have used the clone feature with earlier Acronis versions using usb drives and making the clone, storing it and using it when ready. Wonder why I can't do that now?

Very confusing.

So, can I clone a drive to a desktop usb drive and save it for latter use?

Can I then recover the clone to the new drive whenever I am ready.....that is in a future date?

Thanks

Hi Scott,

if you are going to replace your source drive with a target drive, you need cloning. If you need just to create a copy of your system so that in future you can move this system to a new disk, backup would be a better choice.

I hope this article can help you: Difference between Backup and Disk Clone
