Computer reboots during cloning process

Thread needs solution

Hi all. I'm having issues when trying to clone my 1TB Seagate HDD (with only 90GB used) to my new 120GB SanDisk SSD. I'm trying to do it without using an external media: I connected the new SSD to the original HDD space and placed the HDD to the CD/DVD media driver. My system recognizes both drivers as expected.

I can open the Acronis True Image cloning window, select the Automatic option, choose HDD as source and SSD as target and start the process. It shows that target disk has enough space and after I trigger the cloning process it asks for a reboot. I'm able to enter the setup menu and select the Acronis loader option. After that it opens a window which says Preparing then after a minute changes to Cloning and quickly reboots the computer without any progress in the bar. It loads the OS normally but without any change.

I did a full system check and everything is working just fine. Please let me know if I'm missing something or if you need more details to help me on this.

The reboot is expected. It is necessary as with versions of ATI pre ATI 2018 it requires booting into temporary Linux environment. This can lead to all sorts of issues - see discussion here. If you wish to clone, you should make a backup first. I prefer to make a backup and use it to create the new OS disk.

Hope this helps.

I'll add that you should read [IMPORTANT] CLONING - How NOT to do this!!! | Acronis Forum before doing anything more.
