Could someone recommend software to backup a folder on computer to hard drive on same computer?
I need a software program that will do backups on my computer. I don't need the full image all I want is to have a designated folder like my documents backed up on a daily basis to a hard drive on the same computer. I would also like it, if it was possible to backup to a hard drive attached to usb on my router. I purchased this acronis software but i just don't think doing all my backups to the cloud is exactly what I want. I need to just backup to hard drive. Thanks

You could consider other type of software like synching software. Goodsync and SynckbackSE are good choices and they come with limited free versions. Paid versions include versioning, retention rules, mirror/backup modes, etc.

Actually, you may want to reconsider backing up to a cloud. If your data is truly valuable, you need to store it off site.
Consider this: your computer is damaged by fire, flood, or what have you. If you are backing up to an external hard drive, where do you keep that drive? You don't want to find the crispy remains of your backup drive sitting next to the crispy remains of your computer.
Several of the free, or relatively cheap, cloud services will automatically synchronize with the folders of your choice. Google's Drive and Microsoft's One Drive are examples.

Thanks for all the help. I did figure out how to work the software. I looked at screen shots from the training material and figured that I had not got the complete program. Everything is different. But I finally figured out how to get out of the only going to the cloud mode and now I will have to study it some more.
Yes I think this is over kill. Sometimes I get carried away and buy new software that I think is going to be great and it turns out that I don't really use or need all the features.
I just remembered that I do have One drive and use it all the time. Forgot about using it as a backup. One problem with those is if you go on one computer and delete something it immediately goes and wipes it off everything else, which is sometimes not what you want.

Yes, there is a critical difference between synchronization and backing up.

I use DirectoryOpus to synchronise folders. Again, this may be overkill solution.

True, but both GoodSync and SyncBack SE have modes equivalent to file backups, with in fact better version retention rules and scheduling options than ATI. Another benefit, is that these pieces of software don't pack your precious files in humongous proprietary containers (TIB files) that are sensitive to minor corruption.
So you can really backup files with these pieces of software.
