Creating WinPE rescue media with a trial copy of ATI 2016

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to test out all the main functions of ATI 2016, and a key one is obviously the ability to recover the data in a system restore situation.

I created a bootable USB drive and got my laptop to boot into the ATI Rescue idsc. So far so good.

However I have hit a problem when trying to enter passwords - for my server where the backups are stored, and for the encryption key for the backups themselves. Basically I use long random strings of alphas, digits and symbols. After some experimenting it seems that the default keyboard mapping is incorrect. I tried chaning the keyboard mapping using CTRL-SHIFT but nothing happened. Research told me that with the standard bootable disc from a UK version of ATI only contains one keyboard layout. To provide alternatives I would need to create a WinPE-based rescue image.

So I started doing that and hit a snag. I downloaded the Acronis Media Add-on and tried to install it. It stopped, saying that it would only install on the back of a valid ATI licence.

So I'm in a Catch-22 situation. I won't buy the software until I can demonstrate to my satisfaction that it does what I need it to do, but I can't do that until I buy the software.

Any suggestions as to how I can get round this, or are other people more trusting than me?

Please see KB document: https://kb.acronis.com/content/2768 which lists the restrictions in place for trial products - you would need to contact Acronis Sales directly to see if they can offer you any options for trying out the WinPE media.

Try pressing numlock and see if that helps.  Some systems I have used (both the linux and/or winpe media) sometimes require numlock to toggle the keys so that the correct keys are entered when pressed.  You won't know when typing the password, but can test out what letters/characters are being sent to the system by randomly typing where the path to the server can be entered.
