Daily backups to removable media

Thread needs solution

Hi

I apologise for asking a question which i would imagine has been previously addressed but i am very new to Acronis True Image 2016. We are looking to create a back up of a number of files to a removable hard drive on a daily basis. When i create the back up job it works fine and provided that i dont change the removable hard drive will work as per the schedule. However, we want to be able to use multiple removable drives so that we can have copies of our back up off site. When the removable media is changed the back up fails.

I previously used "back up my PC" by Roxio. This created a backup every night at a specified time, overwriting the previous backup, which it did regardless of which removable drive was attached.

Is there any way of making True Image do the same thing??

By the way, Cloud storage is not a viable option for us.

THanks in advance.

Greg.

Greg, welcome to these user forums.

Sorry, but ATIH 2016 is not designed to be used in the way you are looking for with multiple different removable drives for a single backup task.

The reason for this is that ATIH stores the drive unique identifier (UUID) in its database for the task that is created to use the drive.  When you swap the drive over, the UUID of the new drive no longer matches the information held in the ATIH database for the task.

The only way you can do what you ask is to create separate backup tasks for each different backup drive.  The recommendation in doing this is to pre-allocate specific drive letters to these drives from the end of the alphabet, so that when you connect them they continue to be given the same drive letter each time, rather than allowing Windows to just allocate the next available drive letter.

I think that having multiple backup jobs (one for each drive) will still produce the results your looking for Greg.  It also keeps things clean by ensuring only the backup jobs associated with that hard drive are in one place.

Alternatively, you could keep one primary drive always connected and robopy or use a sync tool to replicate the backup files from that drive to other drives before moving them offsite.
