Daily sheduled backup fails after changing external media

Thread needs solution

I have setup a sheduled daily backup with a single version scheme to an external Seagate 1TB drive. We ahve 2 drives and we want to switch them daily. When I do a manual backup to either drive everything works fine but when I shedule the backups it works on one drive ok but then then it fails to backup the next day to the other drive. Am I missing something in the setup. We use the same usb port and remove one and replace it with the other identical drive. Also when it does backup it is not at the sheduled time but usually hours later.

The task is mated to the single specific external disk that was the connected at time of task creation.;

You will need to create a new task for the spare external with the spare attached during the task creation.

Maybe use task 1 on odd days, but use task 2 on even days of the week, etc.

If the wrong disk is attached, the backup task will fail.

Note: each task name should differ from the other--maybe include the target disk short name as part of the task name.

Each switch will backup the data that changed from when the same disk was in before.

Is there really no way of managing backups of 9 internal drives using a collection of caddies in order to maintain long-term backups without having to create 9 new tasks each time I insert a new caddy?

Investigate TrueImage 11.5 which is more business oriented.

As to your questions regarding verson 2014-2015-2016 each backup task needs to be dedicated to a single specific target location and that target location needs to be attached when the task is created.

To make duplicate task creation easier, you can look at the edit task settings /Clone settings option.

Once a task has been cloned, it can be then edited to update the old settings to new settings.

Thanks - but I feel that the extra cost of 11.5 will just be throwing good money after bad.

I quite understand how to create duplicate tasks, but the interface is so slow that it's taking anything up to 3 minutes to duplicate a task and edit it.

By "slow", I mean clicking on something is often followed by a long wait while ATI seems to be scanning drives etc.

I also understand that the task needs to be dedicated drive, but a target location would be a drive letter and that's what I'd want - and if it doesn't find a previous backup, it should create a new full backup. This, to me, is logical behaviour.

Thanks for the info. I have reconfogured the backup jobs for each external drive so one will run Mon, Wed,and Fri and the other Tue and Thur.

Em Tee,

To TrueImage, the target is not a drive letter but both a specific path and a specific Disk ID.

With 2015 and 2016, if the expected backups (per their history file) is not at the specific target location,

the program errors out rather than creating a new backup.

The delay is probably due to the task bening cloned refers to a specific disk which is not attached and the program waits and then times out.

Oh wonder, I am not the only one facing problems with this stupid task management for changing external drives...This REALLY is a huge step in the wrong direction...

We are using 11.5 for servers and (till now) Acronis 201x for computers. If Acronis is not able to handle a simple task like different usb drives then I might rethink my understanding of security. Private people tend to forget to change drives and do not want to think about scheduled tasks and if the right disk is attached. I all worked till version 2013. So, why not in the future versions ?

This type problem came about when Acronis changed management of their backups to the data base concept and each backup tracked in a lot of detail.

If 11.5 does what you want it to do, this may be your best option.

Have some interchange about this problem with Aconis support or moderator.  Your comments above are probably not seen by Acronis people.

Pricing for 11.5 is far too high for people used to buy former versions of acronis. If Acronis is not reading the forum then why it is called forum.acronis.com ?

As I already said. We are selling Acronis products but the handling of external media is just crap.
