Deleting Chains

Thread needs solution

I just ran a back up and it deleted the entire previous chain. I have it to store no more than 2 chains and do not delete the first version. I switched back up drives about a month or two ago. Now I only have b7s1v1, all of b6 is gone. Is there a way to keep a previous chain? Thank you.

With your backup scheme settings your b6 backup chain shouldn't have been removed if the b7 chain still was being built but if you have been making changes to these settings or switching backup drives around, then this could be a factor in why this did happen.

If you want 2 Backupchains + "Do not delete the first version of the backup", you should use "store not more than 3 recent version chains".

Just when I thought it was working right... It backed up the last time on Wed March 25 for EntirePC. Sometime between Wed and Monday morning the backups were deleted. It now says "Never performed" and next backup Wed April 1.

The Files backup seems to be working ok. I just cannot seem to get the Entire PC to keep the files.

I would recommend creating a completely new backup task using a unique name that hasn't been used previously then see that the new task works correctly without giving the same issue of chains being deleted when they should not be.

It keeps doing it. Perhaps due to not having deleted previous schemes. I cannot figure out how to paste the files I am attaching here in the text.

I deleted the folder EntirePC1 and EntirePCOld, but it keeps coming back. Today, I tried to delete the older backup schemes, but it takes forever. I assume if I just delete them from the list, the problem will still be there.

There is only one scheme scheduled to do a backup, so I am not sure why I keep having this happen.

It keeps deleting old schemes, as it did no Monday, I do the backup once a week on Wed.

It was find until I changed the backup drive in January. Thank you

Also, the backup of just files took over 8  hours on Monday, for 153GB. The computer is really slow for those whole 8 hours.

The impact on PC performance can be adjusted in the "performance" settings for the task (see below showing the Advanced Tab). I have clicked on performance to reveal the details - not this is with ATI 2020 but will be much the same in ATI 2016).

Also, the speed of the backup can be impacted by the amount of free space on the destination/target HDD and the extent of file fragmentation.

So you may be able to fix the speed problem by adjusting the setting and defragmenting the destination HDD.

1 - I think my main problem is how to delete the existing schemes, as they seem to be erasing  to correct backup files and also remaking the folders EntirePCOld and EntirePC1. This must be why it keeps erasing the backups

When I try to Delete Whole B/U, it just shows "deleting backup" for a very long time. I am not sure it is really doing anything. I think that Acronis 2016 might just be fubar? There is no way I can get it to just do straightforward backups and keep the ones that are supposed to be saved.

2 - regarding speed, I have it marked "Operation Priority" Low and "Optimal". I got a new drive in January, and it seems to have done nothing to speed things up.  In fact it has caused the problems listed above.

Thank you

The reason why your old backups keep coming back is that information about them still exists in the internal Acronis Database.

See KB 60915: Acronis True Image: repairing program settings - for instructions on how to force a rebuild of the database.

Note: when deleting backup tasks with destinations in remote locations such as a NAS, just take the option to remove the task settings instead of deleting everything, then once the task is gone from the GUI, just delete the unwanted files from the NAS directly.

Thanks, I changed to Database.bak and that seemed to allow me to delete a scheme. It also deleted all the files in the B/U drive in the Files Backup folder, which had 18 from last set and 3 from the latest set. The EntirePC file from Wed is still there.

I am not sure if that was all I should do with KB 60915, I see there are other methods.

I have 6 schemes listed, with 2 set to run, but 4 are checked. Why are 4 checked?

I guess I will see next Wed if it does the EntirePC backup correctly and does not add folders and delete previous files.

Unfortunately since the Files B/U was deleted it will take another 8 hour back up for all the files. That is why I have 18 in a set, to speed up the daily backup.

Thank you.
