Destination Disc Greyed
Hi, everyone,
I have an issue with Acronis True Image 2010. I did backup of machine HMI with Window XP installed, disc C approx. 5.3 GB. I got 2 files - 3 GB and 2.3 GB, I can understand this. But when I did backup of a second machine HMI which Disc C 6 GB, I got only one backup file with size 3 GB. First question: is this normal?
Then I tried to recover the backup files from the first machine on a new HMI. When I reached the Destination Disc selection phase, I found that the hard drive of the HMI is grayed and cannot be selected. I tried to recover from the backup file I got from the second machine, and I could select the destination disc without problem. The point is I need to recover from the first HMI. Please advise, thank you in advance!

Dimitar, welcome to these user forums.
This forum is intended for users with the Acronis True Image 2016 product whereas you are seeking help with ATIH 2010 - please post any further messages in the Acronis True Image Home - Older Versions Forum where other users of similar products post questions.
It is difficult to advise you on your backups for your Windows XP machines without much more information. I assume that when you talk about a machine HMI - that this is some form of specialised industrial system that is running XP for automated control?
Are all your HMI systems identical in terms of hardware components?
It is possible that there was a problem when creating a backup from your first machine but you would need to check the logs for that action, the same for when you tried to recover from that backup - the logs should give an indication of any problems being encountered.
If your first HMI is still fully operational / working well, then you could try making a new backup from that system and check what size the backup file is?

Hi, Enchanted,
Thank you for your reply. You understand perfect my issue.
If the disc was corrupted, it would not be possible to be selected with any backup file, but in my case that was possible with the backup file of HMI 2.
Of course, just in case I will run check disc command and let you know.

Dear Steve Smith,
Thank you for your reply. Indeed, these HMIs are intended for industrial systems for automatic control with Windows XP embedded.
Concerning hardware differences, the first one is the capacity of the hard drives (Toshiba in all 3 cases). The backup file was done on HD 250 GB, while I try to recover it on 120GB HD, but that is not supposed to be a problem, right? Besides, as I mentioned above, I was able to select the Disc using the backup file from HMI 2, which has HD 250GB as well, so that is not the issue. Please note in both cases I got final message that the backup was successful, but OK, I will do once again backup of the HD of the first HMI, as you advise, to see if I will get any difference, and will revert.

Hi, guys,
Chkdsk done and new backup of the same HMI done too, no luc
k. I did some backups and recovers from and to other HMI, everything works perfect except the one I mentioned in my first post. Just the destination disc (ToshibaMK1060GSCX, capacity 93,16 GB), remains greyed and cannot be selected.Any other ideas?

Dimitar, I can only suggest trying a different, spare destination disk in case there is an actual problem with the Toshiba drive you are seeing the greyed out selection for.
Can you confirm the size of the source drive that you are using to create the backup image you are restoring?

Hi,
Issue solved. Finally chkdsk /r command helped, but not on the destination disk, but on the source disk. I noticed that usually the backup takes 15 minutes for approx. 5-5.5 GB hard drives (if you remember, I did backup on several HMIs), but the backup of the hard drive of HMI 1 took me 2 hours. That told me there is something wrong with that hard drive. Then I did chkdsk /r, and the third backup took me 15 minutes, same like the other HMIs. After I could select normally the destination disk, the recover passed perfect, the HMI works properly. Thanks again for your replies.
