Device manager: not enough quota

Thread needs solution

I noticed something strange in Windows 10 Device Manager.  Under Portable Devices, I have an icon that says, "Acronis Backup" with yellow warning arrow.  When I click on Properties, it says:

"This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

{Not Enough Quota}
Not enough virtual memory or paging file quota is available to complete the specified operation."

Is this anything to worry about?  I am using an externa WD My Book 1230 USB 3.0 for backup.  Everything has been working fine.

Thanks - Jim

What version of Windows are you using?  Is the pagefile size set in Windows a low maximum size or had the pagefile been disabled?  If pagefile has been or is disabled you need to enable it.

Below is a link that explains more on the pagefile as well as some other files in various versions of Windows that may help you out here.

It's Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.  I have never touched the Page File, so I assume it's being managed by Windows.

Never safe to assume anything with PC's.  You should visit the link provided and insure that things are working correctly.

The pagefile is set on a per device basis so I think what the message you are seeing is telling you that there is no pagefile allocation set for your external drive.  This should not present a problem in normal day to day operation of your PC I wouldn't think but it is a puzzle why Device Manager is informing you of this fact.  It could be that this particular drive reports itself to Windows incorrectly.  The drive should report as a Removeable Device if it is reporting as a fixed disk that may explain why you see what you do in Device Manager.  Windows Disk Management would be one way of checking on how the drive reports itself.

Under the virtual memory settings, only my boot drive had a paging file selected.  So I checked the box at the top that says, "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives."  I'm not seeing the problem now.

I thought paging was only about swapping memory to/from disk.  I didn't think it applied to every disk in the system!
