Differntial backup to cloud

Thread needs solution

I bought this product with the intent of performing a complete backup to the lcoud followed by incremental or differential backups to the cloud scheduled nightly. Now that I have compelted a full backup to the cloud I can't figure out how to perform differential backups. The only time that I am offered the option of a differential backup is when I use an external drive for the initial backup. Am I missing something here?

Robert, when you backup to the Acronis Cloud you do not get any options to allow you to choose the type of backup that is used, i.e. you cannot choose to create either incremental or differential backup images in the cloud.

Instead, your backup to the Cloud will create an initial full backup for the source items that you have selected, then after that point only changes to those source items will be created in the Cloud but such changes are managed with retention schemes where you can select from upto 10 system restore points for your Cloud backup.

See http://www.acronis.com/en-gb/personal/online-backup/ for a description of how Cloud works, in particular see the section for Additional Features where it talks of Retention schemes and Advanced Backups.

The intention with Cloud backups is to try to minimise the amount of data that needs to be uploaded from your system, hence a differential image would cause a large amount of duplicated data each time it is created as this type of backup scheme captures all changes to the source items since the last full backup image was captured.

Thanks. I posted the question after a full backup to the cloud was created, but before it had a chance to run the additional backup.
