Does Recovery CD recognize External HDD over 3 TB, especially Seagate

Thread needs solution

2015 didn't until the last build. I am looking to see if the regular (non WinPE) disk will recognize my Seagate 4TB External HDD. Thanks

Hi Bob,

Have you viewed my posting:- 76154: 2015 Rescue Media does not see my USB3 external hard drives; this has received more views and comments than any other thread!

https://forum.acronis.com/forum/76154

Even with the most recent release of 2015, I cannot see my External USB III Seagate drives (One 2TB, the other 3TB).

However, Acronis provided me with a link, allowing me to download an ISO image, for 2015 Build 6567 (Never released publically), from which I created a bootable media.

This worked fine and I could see both external drives; backed up and restored several times.

More interestingly, I have downloaded ATI 2016, on a trial basis.

This allows you to create a Bootable media, which has two options:-

(1) Acronis TI , presumably 32 Bit

&

(2) Acronis TI 64 bit!

If I select the option (1), I cannot see either of my external drive, but with option (2), I can see both.

Cannot understand this, but who cares, if it works.

Recommend that you download this, as a backup

Brian

Brian, that is interesting. When I used the Linux recovery disk it recognised my 3TB Western Digital USB HDD. I think the recovery media I created was 64 bit - cannot remember.

Ian

Thanks for the info...much appreciated. So basically, if I purchase 2016 and create a 64 bit recovery disk...should be OK.

Yes Bob, it looks as if that is so,

Ian

Hi Bob,

Why not just download the trial version, free, and then create a recovery media - As far as I am aware, this will still work, after the trial period expires!

If you have an older version, such as 2014, or 2015, you would need to un-install first, before downloading the trial 2016

If your older versions work satisfactorily, in all other respects, but for the boot media; then you could re-install, after creating the 2016 boot media.

Again, you would have to un-install 2016, before re-installing you old version

Of course, you could purchase 2016, if you wish; it appears to have resolved many problems - But trial it first!

Brian

Hi Bob,

Afraid that I have given you some duff gen!

Although you can create a Boot Media, this media, on the trial version, will not allow you to back up your operating system - I believe that it will allow you to recover your operating system, but I haven't checked this out!

I plan to purchase, 2016, after the 30 day trial period expires; that is if I find that it proves stable on my machine!

Brian

Yes, the trial version will allow recovery with no time limit.

Purchased the upgrade. Works fine with the Seagate drive. I posted another question about my Dell Venue Pro with 32 bit OS and UEFI. I downloaded the trial and created a bootable flash drive. Recognizes everything except the hard drive in the tablet. Flash memory 64 GB (C:\) not showing up in the recovery environment. Any thoughts?
