Error during the backup process

Thread needs solution

We received the error message: "The specified file does not exist" and later it is "Cannot find version 28.
You may have moved or deleted it. Please click Browse and specify its location, or ignore this message."

I did not do anything because I did not do anything with the file. The backup was not done. I created a new full backup but it looks like corrupted because it is many empty files (in the previous too) of the backup. I tried to mount the backup, but I could not do this because the program was looking for the other files and it could not find.

One of the Log files is attached and the sample what is created as the backup.

Also, on the computer Symantec antivirus runs that blocks activating of autorun.inf program during the backup.

Please, help us to solve this problem.

Tom, welcome to these user forums.

Thank you for the log file and the screen shot of your backup files.

There are several things to note from this information.

  1. At some point you have deleted some of the backup files outside of ATIH 2016, i.e. by using Windows Explorer to make space on your backup drive.
  2. You are using the default Error Handling options on the Advanced page of your backup task configuration, this in turn is causing ATIH to keep retrying to run the backup task and creating further small backups.

Please click on the (V) icon to the right of your backup task name and take the option to Validate your backup - you will be given error messages for each missing backup file that you should take the Ignore option - do this for all missing files that are reported.  This will help reconcile the Acronis Database files with the actual status of your backup files.

Next, edit your backup task by selecting it and clicking on Options then open the Advanced page tab, Expand the Error Handling section and change the Time interval between attempts from being in Seconds to be in Hours instead - see screen shot below.

Tom, thanks for the screen image.  If you are seeing messages that the backup file is corrupted, then validation will not work as you have found.

In this case, I would recommend running a CHKDSK /F /R against the source and backup disk drives involved in the backup to make sure that you do not have a more serious underlying issue here with a failing disk drive or bad sectors on a drive.
