Error trying to generate Full PC backup

Thread needs solution

I tried to create my first Full PC backup and after about 200Mb of data, it says there is an error, would I like to choose a different destination.  There is nothing wrong with my Seagate 1.8Tb external drive, what could be the problem?

I tried this process twice.  Same result.  I closed all my applications.  I wrote a small file to the external drive.  I have Admin privileges.  There was no indication of what the error was.

Susan, welcome to these user forums and thank you for the information you have provided.

I would strongly recommend that you edit your original post and delete the acronis_error_message.jpg image as this contains a full picture of your email inbox and personal information including your email address shown clearly.

From the System Report information the task log files show the following errors happening when trying to write the backup data to your external USB Seagate drive:

id=12;  date/time=17/09/2016 02:55:29;
message=Error occurred while writing the file.
id=13;  date/time=17/09/2016 02:55:29;
message=The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error

This is repeated over again until you cancelled the backup operation.

Device I/O errors suggest a problem with the connection to the external drive - if you are connecting this via a USB Hub device, try removing this and connecting the drive directly to one of your computer's USB ports.

If the USB Hub is a non-powered device, i.e. has no separate power supply then it may not be able to handle to I/O demand for the size of data being transferred to the drive and you should invest in a powered Hub device.

If the above does not help, then try reseating and/or replacing the USB cable to the drive, using a different USB port, or even trying a different drive if you have one available.
